I was just reminiscing about the old MCO, and how people would always get a friend to 'start' them on a track then exit out of race, giving the victory money to you. Would there be anything in MWO to ward this sort of thing off?:-/

i think they are gonna have some system that will give u more money if u compete with more racers...not 100% though

It's been brought up before, and I'm sure they plan to do something to prevent this particular item, as well as any other ideas that would allow this sort of cheating. What that is that they plan on doing, aside from having a determined group of administrators patrolling the servers, I'm not sure.

I dont think cheating or bug exploitations going to be that big of a deal with a the fairly smallish group that we're going to start with and as the group grows, those of us that have been here since before the game was launched will more than likely form a sort of mentor, community relations, police type group. I play City of Heros and have since beta and I along with a lot of friends(its amazing how many you make in 5 yrs:) have no problems with dropping a dime on abusers or helping noobs. Its all about the community man.

Hopefully the A-hats that like to race like its a damn demo derby will stay away for awhile too. I just came off a couple hour stretch on DiRT. No skill A-hats. If it weren't for the slammers, Id have more wins. Now Im not saying a few guys dident get turned off my front clip, but that was just because I couldn't check up in time. Intentional turning is bull. If I bomb a corner, I stay wide if Im being flowed.
Anyhow, the bad guys will be easey to spot, and I know the admins have something to deal with people.

the biggest problem is a rolling economy... that's what kinda killed the original MCO. When you have guys who have been there since the start and have a tone of money, and new people start coming in, and have nothing and can't build a decent car to win any money. that's when people loose interest and a game can't get any new people. though MCO had a good run for a few years the economy is an issue, and making all parts available for a set price does help even though it's fun to have rare parts. There are a lot of big issues but these guys will figure it out, and sometimes it takes a lot of hit and misses to get things right... that's what betas are for and updates. cheating will happen and people will find ways to exploit the game. it happens everywhere. but it's the honest ones who have the friends and keep the game exciting

A couple of times I had a problem that didn't make any sense. I'd run my race and I didn't hit anybody on my screen, but a few other players were pissed because I hit them....as if I was in point A on my computer and point B on their computers. Maybe it was my connection speed? I just remember paying for damages[to others' vehicles] several times when I didn't surely didn't hit anybody.

Sounds like lag.
And welcome to MWO.:D

Given the complexity of what MCO was at the time, it did lag a bit. Especially since If I recall correctly, it could be played on a dial up connection. I don't have the steadiest hand in the gaming world, and I have knocked fenders with a side by side opponent before. Sometimes I will wait for the other car if I slammed them into a wall. I just don't roll like that. I love the thrill of a clean pass.

What I hated was when you would race someone, and beat them by a big margin, then just before you got to the finish line, all of a sudden they would just magically appear in front of you to win.

I lost count of how many times that happened to me too, Tom.

Again, lag. Not sure how many times that happened in PU and other games. X(

In PU, your car and the other cars were always out of sync on screen forcing us to run pits with "collisions off", so that we wouldn't crash each other out all the time by accident. The game would show the other cars a few meters behind, assumably more behind in relation to their ping to the game host. And at some point, the higher the latency, the more out of sync they would get, sometimes jumping left and right all over the width of the road. Even if the pings were perfect, you'd have to keep flooring until the finish to make sure you'd have enough of a lead and not to be tricked to letting go. Because if you did, that other guy 100m behind would suddenly show up as the winner by 0.03 seconds.

What did they used to call server swaps? Where you would start an account and swap the money?

that was where the guy supposedly had millions of dollars on one server and wanted to put some of it on another server. the way it was supposed to work was; he had the money on his server A persona and wanted to put money on his server B persona. you had an account on server B with money and gave his "B" persona money. then he gave you money on your "A" persona from his "A" persona. if you knew you could trust the guy and set it up right, it worked. problem was...a lot of newb's got scammed that way.
