For those people who play TDU on PC, Atari has finally officially announced a large carpack update containing 45 cars and 1 bike for the PC version. Along the lines of $15 U.S. Finally some good news in the TDU world!
CHECK IT OUT! (http://forums.eu.atari.com/showthread.php?t=80081)

thanx for the update superbug. I haven't been on the forums for a while. that certainly is good news. I wonder if there are any more mods available? one guy on the forum made a mod that simulates engine damage but he was still working on the bugs.

Yeah I havnt given that engine damage mod a shot yet, but it looks promising.
There's been quite a few engine sound mods released as well, and a lot of people are swapping body's from one car to another, which allows you to paint cars that were otherwise unpaintable.
Aside from the .bnk unpacker/repacker, which allows you to play around with cars and sounds, Zmodeller now has a plugin to allow the import of TDU 3d files, however, it still cant output them yet, but I'm sure that will come with time.
The new car pack is said to be released within weeks, rather than months so it shouldn't be too big a wait.
Hopefully it will come soon, and give me something half decent to play until MWO arrives :)

No problem kevmeister :)
I was on the French TDU forums last night, and it looks like people have been able to modify the textures in game. The problem is my French isn't very good, and using Altavista Babelfish isn't much better, but they have downloads of the modified cars available.
The US Forum Thread that led me to it (http://www.ataricommunity.com/forums/showthread.php?t=636325)
The French Forum post (http://tdufrance.forumpro.fr/addons-mods-f17/tuning-car-center-t1567.htm)
Very promising :)
TDU almost had what it takes to be the next big MCO but they missed a tremendous bit of details, but I understand they were under a time restraint. I think TDU2 could be the next big MMO racer.

Yeah it's really too bad that Atari/Eden dropped the ball. I love the game despite it's shortcomings. It is basically the closest thing to MCO that has come along.
If the tuning wasn't so simplistic, and it wasn't so difficult to meet up with friends, and clubs actually worked half decent then it really could have been something big.
TDU2 could be the next big thing if they learn from their mistakes, and build on the strong points of the original. Sadly I still don't think anything (Aside from MWO ;) ) will ever come as close to the awesomeness of MCO. That and Atari made a bad name for the game by basically ignoring the PC users and not fixing the problems the game has, so even if TDU2 is great, it might not get the attention it deserves because of the alienation that Atari has created.

you nailed that one, Superbug. the 360 got a lot of DLC that the PC'ers are just getting now. part of this problem might have been caused by Atari's financial woes: hard to pay workers if you have nothing left after paying all your managers. they still should have made some available a little at a time. it wasn't like they were free for the 360 either; we all paid for what we wanted. has anybody seen anything official regarding TDU2?

I don't think there has really been any official announcements made for quite a while about TDU2. The rumour last year was March 2008, but obviously we would have heard something by now if that was the case.
On a positive note though, Atari sold the rights to Test Drive to Infogrames. Slightly confusing because last I heard Infogrames owns Atari, but whatever, at least it should be different people working on the project.
I don't know if Eden will have any involvement in this one.....correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Eden involved in MCO with EA?
I don't know if Atari's neglect of the PC users was financially based (but it likely was), but they really need to work on their PR. Seriously though, not only did half the content they advertised not make it into the game, but they offered no explanation as to why, and then they absolutely left the PC users in the dark with no word as to whether we would ever see patches/car packs. Then they finally do release a patch, and that ends up causing more issues and breaking the game further, and not fixing the main issues people were complaining about. Top it off with another 6 or 7 months of absolute silence, I'm surprised that anyone plays anymore.
I've been lucky, the game has worked pretty much flawlessly for me since I got it, although I finally had a save game get corrupted (after the patch of course :P ) Thank god for backups.
I have to say though... never seen the support and content updates for PC from the studios themselves like I do for xbox.

Yeah, but it makes sense that the support is great for xbox, you don't have to deal with hardware conflicts/pirating etc that you have to work around with PC. I'm sure from a cost standpoint that it's much cheaper to update and support a console, and if they are indeed in financial jeopardy, why not take the easiest route to try and squeeze some more $$$ out of the franchise.

those are all good points gentlemen. remember when EA started posturing to close down MCO by S-L-O-W-L-Y cutting back on game developement. I never did hear what EA's official position was on shutting down MCO. sometimes companies have to shuffle paperwork from 1 hand to another so financially they LOOK solvent. I am happy to see that Atari is at least trying to keep their servers online (if only EA had thought the same way ,eh, gentlemen...) I should be careful though, because I don't have all the facts and any opinions are just that; idle speculation.

Not to hi-jack this thread, but I remember those days. I remember seeing 4 or 5 devs post on the forums weekly on new stuff they were working on. Then it was maybe 2 devs would post, and thats when they started the "race with the devs" thing. I can remember doing nothing but purposly going the wrong direction to take out Cadillac. I dont think he liked me very much, but it made for some killer wrecks. By the end of it... not a single Dev was posting, and all those promises of new cars and cool stuff just never happened.

Woohoo.
Anybody still playing TDU on PC?
I just got my hands on the Mod Tools that let you export the .2db texture files into editable .dds files (and back again)
I can confirm its working, so there's gonna be a lot of new TDU content coming down the wire.
Check out my post on the TDU forums here:

I'm playing TDU on PC as well Superbug. the problem I have with games is that I burn out on one system or game and move to another one. the good thing is that I always come back to each one of them (eventually). I find that way I still like to play them all. right now I'm dividing my time between TDU (PC), Gothic 2/3(PC), Oblivion (360), Sims 2:freetime (PC), Project Torque (PC) :)
