Hey guys, the last few weeks I've been craving a racing game (alot of this has to do with Top Gear) So I started looking into GT 5 again.. It's been in developement now for what? 7 years? Anyway, who is pumped? I just bought GT4 again as I've heard it's reverse compatible on the PS3.. So yea, I'll be addicted to that again..

I have the game. In alot of ways it's different from the earlier games.

seeing as how I just picked up a new PS3 yesterday Kevman, I'm not ashamed to admit I'm waiting for GT-5 as well. there,...I've said it and I feel so much better about myself. I can quit playing GT-5 anytime,...really, I c-c-c-can (breaks into cold sweat and starts having DT's)...LOL. seriously, though, that game is on my 'gotta get' list.

I think GT is all right. I played through the entirety of GT2 and GT4 while doing some of the stuff in GT1 and GT3.
It's nice to be able to drive cars stock with reasonable accuracy; I'll always not like the "no damage" thing and being able to, for instance with suzuki escudo in GT2, just hold down acceleration and let the car "ride" against the guard rails for steering. To me that just seems ridiculous.
However, the biggest issue I have with the GT series is the large bias toward japanese and even euro cars. It was very evident in the first two games that the developers LOVED the nissan skyline, and even people who liked the skyline said it's a bit unrealistic.
The truth is, it's a japanese game, and, as we've seen with movies like the fast and the furious, media can completely change a younger generations mind regardless of whether what is presented in that media is anything close to reality.
If I go to a tuner forum and say you can take an old corvette and turn it into a super high performance car that can perform in the GT racing circuit, most would say it can't be done -- it's impossible. Some more educated, older tuners will say that it can be done, since any car can be heavily modified, including chassis and body, to perform in that upper echelon of racing.
They seem to think the only thing you can do to an old car is get a bunch of horse power out of it. Will a stock c2 corvette out perform a modern vehicle with the same power-to-weight ratio on a figure 8? Not at all likely. Can someone modify the chassis, engine mounts, body and compete against a modern car with the same power-to-weight? Absolutely. And the corvette will look much better.
That's somewhat off topic, so let me get back to point. Somewhere out there, someone wrote a great article about how screwed up the GT series is for american cars. Some of the specifications are wrong, and ALL of the potential of even those old "primitive" blocks is incorrect.
The GT series basically says, "well, american/muscle cars can only go in a straight line, but we're gonna remove that too, and not let you get all the performance out of those blocks." So aside from not being allowed to really modify the older cars' chassis, body, aerodynamics, they don't go anywhere near the potential of those old blocks. Not to mention the fact that you can drop modern blocks in them to provide a better power band and reliability at high HP for performance.
So, while I think GT is a fairly enjoyable game, it just makes me long for a game with much more detailed customization, and, if it were like GT and had all different makes and generations, I'd like it to be fair across the board.
Let me repeat myself, though, just in case anyone is wondering: I think it would be great to have a game that does feature all generations of cars from all over the world with a high level a realism in what you can do to the car to get more performance out of it, but I believe MWO should be a muscle car only game, since the tuners have plenty to choose from.

I switched from GT-series after 4 to Forza.... and haven't looked back.
For me the realism in sim racing is found in GTR-Evolution. Created by Simbin, who made GTR, GTR2, and GT Legends. The communities that surround these and provide organized events/series' are amazing. Ive basically sunk myself into the depths of sim racing to feed my craving for competition.
As for GT I havent played since PS2, which was sadly when I gave up console gaming for PC :)

I really want to have this game, although i have no console to play it on, since my PS 3's blu ray laser is fried.

I'll be picking this up when it comes out. I have everyone one of them for the ps2, I need to get prolouge for the ps3.
I hardly play any ps2 games in the ps3 because of the sudden brick that will happen at anytime. Hardware flaw in the ps3's to read the ps2's atleast it was in the first couple releases of the console.
I haven't check to see if it happens with the new ps3's yet or not.
Quotex is that thing under warrenty. I know of a site that you can get parts from, but its in the US. I picked up a whole blue ray carriage for 70 dollars + shipping.

The damage in GT5 looks amazing to me. Most likely cause I have never seen it in a GT game lol. I'll admit it. I bought a PS3 for this game. The fact my G25 will work with it alone was enough for me to turn my back on the xbox.

I'm not really looking forward to Gran turismo 5 in any way at the moment. All they have done to try and get me interested is give a person like me 1 new car to play with ('70 Challenger R/T on top of all the other classic Detroit V8s from GT4).
Historically I've always gotten the feeling that Polyhpony Digital have done their utmost to misrepresent US cars , especially in terms of performance, prime example of many, in GT4; '70 Charger R/T 4 speed which was only able to hit 122mph in its stock form, last time I checked the stock top speed in real life for one of those was 157mph.
As for their car damage I am not impressed either, seems like the most basic forms of car damage (almost looks like their using damage model presets and not real time deformation) with just a few detachable parts, no damage textures, no scratch or damage maps, almost may as well just be Grand theft auto san andreas as you'd get the same damage effects without the need for all that processing power, whilst it would look like total ****.
I'll admit it is an achievement to have damage with this many licensed cars, but I can't help but think its not going to authentic in any way, there seems to be no depth or energy to the couple of crashes they've shown, whereas endless other games showcase much more exciting crashes such as Race driver GRID, and then the upcoming Driver San francisco (although I've yet to see how the damage model in that looks with their licensed cars.)
Heres another thing: in GT4 they added in fuel (may have been in the earlier games too, I don't know), what happens when that runs out? nothing; your top speed is limited to 50mph until you pit for gas so you can still drive forever.
My only other observation of GT5 is there seems to be no signs of sparks or particle effects outside of tyre smoke from car to car contact or even skid marks on the road.
Thats my 2 cents, or more like 2 bucks worth on gran turismo, for almost 6 years and counting in development, I'm struggling to see where all the time, effort & money has been spent.

I'll admit I'm looking forward to GT5, but as it nears completion and they start giving details about what is and what is not in the game, I'm losing some of my interest. The fact that only 200 out of 1,000 cars will have full damage modelling and fully developed interior views is depressing to me. I suspect that most of those 200 so-called "premium" cars will unfortunately be the fifty versions of the Nissan Skyline and thirty versions of the Mitsubishi Lancer and the Honda whatever-the-name-of-that-roadster-is that already has about twenty iterations in Gran Turismo PSP.
Of course, my biggest problem with high-end "simulator" racing on tarmac is that it is so necessary to learn the course beforehand rather than just jumping in the car and burning around the place. I've never been one to aim for that extra .05 seconds of shavings off my lap time. I recently bought a baja game for my PS3 that has miles and miles of offroad courses that you simply can't learn in advance, so it is all about your ability to react to the terrain and make it through in one piece rather than taking the perfect line. That's something I can get into more easily. That's just my two cents, though. I would be more than happy to subject myself to the GT style if they get some of the american muscle done right this time around.
Honda NSX
Honda S2000
Those are the only 2 RWD Honda "sports" cars in the whole friggin universe.
But yeah, I've always enjoyed GT for their wide variety of cars. But I have a feeling this one is going to suck.
