Sounds like they are putting alot of detailed stuff in this one.

I really Love Workin gauges.I always thought if things are realistic they should have this feature.example I hit a rock I take out my oil pan,My oil pressure should drop resulting in motor damage.

Here are a few videos i ran into.

"slightly mad" studio's sounds like they want to try lift nfs away from the lame black box vision. I'm happy to hear it, because black box nfs sucked. Still don't think I'll be buying.

Copy of grid lol

Looks like they need to drop a letter from "Shift" in the title. When the hell are we getting another Hot Pursuit?

If it turns out that bad, Ken, the community will remove the appropriate letter for them. :D
EA still hasn't learned to name their games so they can't be messed with.

Looks like grid to me also, a company that big can't come out with something original on there on. Hot pursuit was good and original. The last few NFS games have all been about the same dull.

I'm installing this game now, I'm a bit shocked to see they are using the same the engine we are using for MWO. I had known for a while now that EA games licensed the same technology we were using a few months back but had no idea they were using it for this title. I had assumed maybe NFS World Online... but wow. This kinda caught me off guard.

I hope that won't cause us any issues, Ken.

Would be like them to try though. :p
With their mega budget and huge crew, they could toss a pos together and release it long before we even get a chance to start up, then claim ownership of the engine. X(

No it wont, like I said it was just surprising to see. :-O I'm not liking the game thus far, but the graphics sure are pretty. Its also neat to see physX in action on a racing sim.

I think its a step in the right direction.

but it looks the same as grid and kinda feels like PGR (Project gotham Racing)

I'm still going with forza 3 and MWO for racing games

Just looking at the email I got from EA Re: Shift. One thing I don't like right off is that if you buy it from the EA store, you get the Cayman S unlocked, allowing you to "get ahead of the rest". X (This gives an unfair advantage to those that like to have a hard copy or those that don't have a credit card. (or don't have access to daddy's credit card)
Also, where's the demo? :-/
Another one I might get when it shows up in the bargin bin, as if I'll have time to play it anyway.

Watched one of the vids. At least they have the "Ring" but like a lot of other games, it looks like all real circuits. I remember when NFS was the leader in racing, now they're just following what everyone else does. BAH! Nothing orignal here.

I didn't even know this game had been released. That should make my interest in the game fairly easy to gauge.

Dirt 2 is out for the consoles but WILL be out for PC in Dec. They delayed the PC version so they could add Dx11.

They did come out with something original.. It was called " motor city online" and they went down hill picking up speed after they axed the servers and the sad thing is they KNOW THEY MESSED UP..

Look's like grid But I can't play for more than 1min before it crashes everytime. Maybe they should have tested the game before releasing it.

I downloaded the demo, and it didn't crash! :D
It works fine on my rig, but my new controller is iffy. My old rumble pad is messing up badly, so I got a new Philips retractable game pad. The analogue controls are more digital than analogue, so I'll have to do some adjusting with DXTweak2 and try again.
Back to the Shift demo.
It took several minutes to sort out the controller, but it can be done. After (Finally) loading up, the announcer goes on and on about where you will be racing and your car selection and how after you get 10 stars you will get to try a Lambo.
One thing I noticed right away, this is no arcade game. :-O It will be better with a wheel. You can't whip around the corners full tilt, and the walls don't seem to be velcro, I know, I hit several, and spun around. It does show the "ideal line" but it's difficult to follow with a twitchy controller. It might be a bit of fun after I get a wheel, or at least get the controller adjusted, and the full version later, when the price goes down considerably. ($60 at Future Shop, here.)
The big thing I hate about the demo, though. I came in last, and was given the option to retry, replay or continue. It was time to put the daughter in the tub, so I hit continue, thinking I could just exit. WRONG! I was treated to a long drawn out movie I could not escape from. X( I actually had to reset the PC to stop it. Not good.
I'll have to spend a little more time with it to get a better idea if it's something on par or better than PU.
Oh yeah, graphics are nice, even on medium settings, which the game chose for my setup. Sounds are good, and no race music. ;)

Yes that is one of the biggest things I HATE about this game, you can not escape from the game play at all. Its like they took the console version and didn't bother adding in the PC features to the menu. And the menu system is just down right horrid.

hey hos, I got the same problem as you. I just start rolling on the test lap and then 5-10 seconds in, kicks me out to the desktop. definitely a conflict somewhere. might be something as simple as a sound card conflict or turning off kaspersky for a few minutes, don't know...that's another thing also; the cut-scenes are very verbose and drawn out affairs (like that uncle that talks yer ear off because no one will pay attention to him, so yer his pal...)

:)

Wasn't a lambo you'd unlock but a zonda. I tried the demo myself but didn't feel like hooking up the wheel to play. I figured "I beat GRID on PC on Hard with a keyboard, why not a NFS title."

First thought was "I need the wheel." as my car kept breaking loose on me between the full brake and full gas. Then I realized this game isn't very difficult. Granted, the game starts you on easy AI and braking assist (which ANNOYS me to no end). I knew someone was wrong with I was taking my M3 GTR and just DRIFTING... ON THE OUTSIDE... and PASSING PEOPLE. No. I can not allow that. Not even GRID was like that.

If you loved GRID, you may like it. If you thought GRID wasn't realistic enough, stay far away from this (though I imagine you already figured that). I may try it again after my first impressions wear off and the cost comes down, as the video described being able to customize your race cars and such which I thought looked interesting, but the demo really hurt my thoughts about it. Couple that with plenty of good games coming out and it'll probably be a while before I decide I'll buy a copy from a bargain bin that they'll eventually end up in.

Yeah, my mistake, g. :">
I managed a bit more today, and found the settings for adjusting the controller. Gonna take some work to get it useable. :>
Also found that if you wait till that silly ad/movie ends, you can get back to the menu. Took a while, but found the exit. :p
I'm with you about waiting for it to show up in the bargain bin. Could dl it I suppose, but is it worth the 2 days it would take? (Based on size and dl speed of course) Oh wait, not supposed to talk about that stuff. :">

Tho I applaud EA returning NFS to something of its roots with this title, I'm still one fence. What I really want from NFS, would be another Hot Pursuit. How awesome would a next gen HP be? And they could even broaden the scope, by having 4 vehicle types represented: Exotics, Muscle cars, Tuners, and I wouldn't mind a few trucks in there. Remember to each their own.
Anyway, I won't be getting Shift until I try it first.

I've lost all hope in the NFS series. It has been crap for a long time and it won't be going anywhere fast. I still can't fathom how a wheely contest belongs in anything besides a motorcycle event or a lowrider competition.

I will never buy another EA game unless its a FPS or madden. They took MCO away from everybody and left them with a coaster and told everybody to eat it. If they hadn't Ken and the gang wouldn't have had the same motivation to create this original masterpiece with slightly same concept so that is the only thing I thank EA for. I won't say they wouldn't have made a cool car game but they sure did light a fire under everybody's pants and in that manner I have to say "HAHA EA, this game will dominate all motor sports for years to come upon its release and you will see what kind of mistake you have made and what happens when you spit in the faces of your customers and fans. Long Live MWO!!
