How about most of the rock music available in the 50's 60's and 70's? It would seem very fitting for this game.

My guess is it will be very generic public domain music. Possibly grouped by decades or type that we can select the listening station for. I hope we will be allowed to insert our own music/mp3 to listen to that is asigned where existing is. Doubt the rights for mainstream albums is possible.

If so, I will insert the Matt Regan(sp) music from the original MCO which is available on the web in mp3 and I do have.

Will there be an option to turn music off but still hear the game sounds? I like to listen to my own 300 disc player on random.

MWO will ship with game music but you'll be able to import your own music - yours truly will be the game-voice you hear inbetween cuts. At present we only have plans for one radio station in-game.
Got any dj chatter ideas you might like to hear? You know, stuff like "this is your roadweasel on XREV radio bringing more tire-fryin' music your way"
I'm open to g-rated suggestions. ;)

Metallica, AC/DC, etc. (see everyone above who listed) are all good, but I'm in a real Nine Inch Nails mood lately. Their newest album is pretty good, I think.

Also will add these to the queue when I play (in reverse alphabetical order AKA my going up my playlist):
Saliva - Click Click Boom
Pitchshifter - Please Sir, Screenshot
Ozzy - Crazy Train, I Don't Wanna Stop
MudVayne - Dig
Motorhead - Ace of Spades
Molly Hachet - Flirtin' With Disaster
Korn - Twisted Transistor
Judas Priest - Painkiller
Disturbed - Indestructible
Avenged Sevenfold - Scream, Critical Acclaim, Bat Country, Afterlife
Alice in Chains - Them Bones, Man in the Box

There. :)

There's a place with a sign like that in montana or wyoming. I believe it's something like: Road Kill Cafe -- From your grill to ours. You might already know about this and are actually referencing it; if so, then this is for everyone who didn't already know about it.

I think we have had this topic before.

but as a reminder, our parts database includes custom stereos in which you can buy for your cars which allows you to upload your own playlists of music to race to, with our lovely roadweasel playing DJ in between songs.

but what if im driving my numbers matching 69 mustang mach 1 that came from the factory with a drag pack and radio delete option ....... then i would get no music yes ??

point being ...maybe there should be an in-game radio delete (aka above) .... a standard radio that came with the car ( leaving you to be stuck with the game music) but rumor has it there is a radio in the parts catalog that you would buy, then install in your car ..allowing you to import your own music .... without buying the stereo ....you could do no such thing ....

personally im going radio delete .....im one of thoes guys that would listen to a big block and blower whine over music in a car like that ...not to mention shifts by sound

and for Gcountach- Disturbed - Indestructible....... that is the song that landed my Ford GT in the inpound lot and me buying my way out of a six point ticket ........ long story

FuzzyDice21

Whiplash raises a very good point, but on top of that cars from the older generation only came with am radios period, not A-track, cassette, cd or bluetooth. It wasnt like now how some radios read your thoughts and play this song, call that person and bake a cake (being sarcastic). I like the idea of buying a aftermarket stereo and importing your own songs maybe on an ipod or something like (just an idea) but I think it would be cool if in the options menu you can turn down the music volume down and listen to nothing (except a supercharged BB or a turbocharged 5.0)

Here's an odd thought.:trytofly:
What if your radio would only play music from the year of the car and previous? For example, if you are driving a '58 Fury, your radio couldn't play music from any year after that, (Apologies to S.K.) unless you install a new stereo system, purchased in game, then any year is playable. :D

@ Fuzzy, don't you mean 8-track??

here's an idea:

Make radio stations, like they have in GTA...

Classic rock, prog rock, metal, etc.

Get some DJ's to pick playlists and suchlike...

FuzzyDice21

If that turns out to be the case I would like to nominate myself for the METAL :thrasher: playlist. I got over 100 different artists of every genre on my hard drive.

Do you thing you got what it takes to be a DJ on 996 THE SCRAPYARD, MWO's true metal station, trashing the tunes while you trash the gears.

What kind of metal were you thinking?

FuzzyDice21

definitely speed, some death, black, trash, and melodic.

baddog_1_2k
03-05-2009, 03:03 AM
My biggest problem with GTA idea is they rarely get to many good metal in the game if any how can you even suggest metal without Metallica Megadeth or Black Sabbath you would never satisfy everyones need to headbang Personally I am not crazy about alot of the deathmetal but I love speed and Thrash (I don't count Hair Sorry Tommy Lee even if its good its not metal) But what if it was done more like Satellite radio genre specific maybe Outlaw Country Blues Rock Metal classic Rock of different decades and some Alternative and then you can bookmark you favorite artist and it will alert you when it comes up and even some of the new ones have MP3 players which could be off your hard drive.

I only listen to good music "hair metal" is not music and you forgot 2 other bands Slayer and Pantera. The satellite idea would complicates things even more. but I think you should still be able to upload your own music, or play what ever you want in the background with Itunes or something if you don't like the in game music. but there is no way to satisfy everyone's needs that's impossible. The stations should be there to give people something to listen to if they don't have that much music on their computer, or want to listen to different stuff.

I say just use some of the music from the original game. I dont think i could stand listening some of the music listed above. The music from the original game was great I thought. No lyrics, was from the era of the time of the game and so forth.

but please dont put music with screaming lyrics in it. And none of that speed/death metal stuff. Just my thoughts

Edit: I mean if you put that death/speed/hair band stuff then why not put some hip hop tracks. The music of the game should be for everyone and not everyone can stand that metal stuff. I say just put generic music in the game as Ea did. That was one think i thought they did very well was the choice of music they had in the game. If I could just hear the music again it would be great. I actually really liked it lol

Taigo
05-31-2009, 05:56 AM
We cant use the original music, since it belongs to the ea.
But we will stick to the theme, old rock, surf music and blues, no lyrics nor anything :)

Dr Freedom, do you have any kind of sample so i could hear your work?

If you are interested feel free to contact me.
That goes for anyone.
You donīt even have to worry about recording, all i need would be a midi file.
Iv got synths and all the software required to finish the work.

Wicked Chicken

Why can't we use the music? This game was abandoned by EA in 2003 and we bought the rights to use the music since it is on the CD's. According to the abandoned software act, we have all the rights to use it as we are not making any profit off of it when the game goes live for free. Please check out this dudes my space page, he is playing all the MCO tracks and I am sure that no one cares. If you want, went through the CD 2 days ago and pulled all the music off it. They are .asf files and I converted them to .mp3 files so I could play them through I-Tunes. Hell, I could even convert those to a .wav file and burn them on CD for your car. Get that old MCO feeling while driving your real car.

Taigo

Why we cant?!

1 - Because with this game, it would be like a step in eaīs foot.
You cant compare distributing a game (even for free) with a my space profile.

2 - Because we can do it better using the same style of music.

and 3 because we dont need anything from ea, plain and simple.

Mad Mike

and 3 because we dont need anything from ea, plain and simple.

I couldn't agree more, and

4 - even if using the original MCO soundtrack was legally sound, I'm sure EA would still find some way to hit us with a lawsuit.

I can't believe no one has thought about mentioning "Flirting with disaster" by Molly Hatchet.

Anyway, the GTA style radio stations would be a good idea.

Maybe even a talk radio station where we can get a couple people to talk about stupid issues...

I nominate myself as the Classic/hard rock DJ, I can make a list that'll rock your socks off. And it won't sound so generic like the GTA rock stations lol I'll make a list and I'll post what I can come up with

Mad Mike
05-31-2009, 04:42 PM
If we're going with radio stations, I'd suggest a station with a similar theme to the 96.2 Gear talk radio show in the PS2 game Roadkill, where they talked about: Engines, cars, demolition derbys, racing, guns, explosives and general things they liked doing in their spare time

Something along those lines incorporating: vehicles, parts, tuning advice, best places to race, and some classic Mopar vs GM vs Ford vs AMC banter would be ideal.

I don't care so much what music is in the game, and going with something generic is probably the best bet. What I'm really interested in is the ability to put my own MP3's in the game. If it can grab my tunes from a play list, and insert the "dj" bits between them, that will be great.

All the songs mentioned and I am surprised no one thought of "I'm in Love With my Car" from Queen. My little sister gives me static and tells me that this should be my theme song. The song is on A Night at the Opera album. A good rocker.

I think that your own MP3's in the game is the best. Maybe all we need is the DJ spots and commercials in the game. I have a whole CD of 1960's Drag Racing Commercials from Lion's Drag Strip, so there is no rights issues. The track closed in 1972........

A music importer sounds the best, as everyone has a different taste in music. Forget the sound track, that would make the DEV groups job easier.

But we will stick to the theme, old rock, surf music and blues, no lyrics nor anything :).

So glad to hear this, the MCO style of music fit perfectly with the game and having the ability to use your own tunes is a bonus.

Matt Ragan's (SP) music in MCO was the bomb. My guess, should EA not own the rights, he does. I wouldnt be surprised if Matt was open to the idea of writing some tracks for MWO, you never know till you ask.

I dont know if this would be too much of a hassle, but there are a ton of good internet radio stations of all different genres of music. Is there a way you could just incorporate them into the game? That way you could possibly include what ever bands you want without having to pay (I think).

cobra96
06-20-2009, 03:25 AM
honestly it would be easier to just include custom music so u could import any music u wanted...just put 50's, 60's, and 70's music on radio and let us have the option of playing our own music...cuz im gonna be rockin out to some disturbed, hollywood undead, saliva, bullet for my valentine, and a bunch more

There's also the problem with bandwidth. When I'm playing a game, I don't have anything else running that will be using bandwidth (like a internet radio station). You can play one in the background if you want, but try to stay out of the way when you see all the cars around you warping everywhere!

Well I'm back again to actually suggest something this time =-). I was reading up on some of the suggestions already done and such. I've actually come up with one of my own. Prolly kind of hard or unable to do but here it goes. I was thinking of an Auction Channel of sorts. For both cars and parts. I know some of the fun in the game was sorting through the parts/cars auctions ravaging for those certain "rare" or desirable parts. But what better way is it to hear those reare parts/cars that in there perhaps. Instead of rummaging through 100's of parts at once ya know.

And As of now im trying to get a list of the specs for the best muscle car ever made. THEE 1970 Ford Mustang Mach 1!!!! Ill post it later as im trying to get all the exact specs for it and such

Copyrights last 50/70 years after the death of the author. Just let everyone play their own music, that would be an important feature (multiple different playlists?), and lets the developers off from paying royalties to some big record companies.. I think. I'm not much of a fan for death metal, so I'd probably pick something like ZZTop. :D
