Yahoo voice conference problem

I'm asking here because yahoo help is no help at all. I'm trying to connect with a friend to learn a foreign language (irish) via yahoo messenger's conference voice feature. I can hear jane just fine, and I've gone through the yahoo setup wizard, checked my firewall, and according to everything I can see I should be able to talk back to her. The yahoo voice setup clearly shows that it recognizes when I speak. When we're in the conference "room" the box you check for voice is ghosted out and won't let me check it.
I know my headset works ok because I can record with it and play back. I can hear her and my mic is not set on "mute".
Any ideas? Anybody with yahoo care to conference and try help me figure this out? Thanks!

Have you tried upgrading your messenger? I would conference with you, but I'm at work right now and I think they'd frown upon that ;)

mine is version 8.1.0.209 so not sure but I think its the most current... and I have windows xp if that makes any difference

got it fixed - upgraded to the new version works fine.
