im only going to play this game for the following reasons:

-to help improve MWO from this game
-to actually race with ex MCOer's
-to learn how to build well tuned machines from ex MCO'ers
-i will only race mazdas, subarus and american cars

other than that i think this will go unnoticed once we flex MWO's muscles

ok i downloaded the game,

what server do you all play on in the game?

im using the same screen name on here in project torque

I attempted to check out Project Torque, I created an account, then was prompted to download.. but the place where the downloads are, have various games and such but nothing with "project torque" in the titles. So on the main page, in the upper right hand corner where it said download now, I clicked there.. it sent me to another page, in the upper left corner it said i needed to register again, so i click there and got a "no authorization to be here" .. Am I missing something? where do I actually go to get the download and play? Thanx..

I tried to play it, out of the 15 races I started, I had to abort 10! The races start out like MCO did, you see all the other cars you're about to race, the camera circles around each of them before it focuses on yours. The problem is, the races load up in a specific amount of time, if your not loaded up completely when the race starts, the game doesn't wait for you. You become a spectator in your own car. You cant look out your own window to race, until 3 or 4 laps into a race! Now, I get booted from race starts, because others think I'm a quitter! They dont want me there! I cant drive my car while my racer guy is watching other cars drive around the track! I've taken the advice of 2 people who have tried to help there, changing options and such, but nothing works. When i first started 3 days ago, I got stuck in a race room, i asked them to "boot" me , because i was stuck in there. The response I got was " I'm not booting you, we need all the racers we can get" and then they laughed. Then I had to abort to leave. I hope some MWO execs, go check out this game, and make MWO nothing like it! Thanx..

Am I right to assume this is an upgrade like game (basically a gran turismo online)?

KEN
03-09-2008, 04:32 AM
you pay to upgrade from what I have read which is where they really stick you with the so called free to play. If you want those higher end parts/cars you need to pay for them literally.

Wraith
03-09-2008, 07:06 AM
Oh, well then I guess I'll pass.

Not going to pay for an upgrade level 1 2 3 etc type racing game.

superbug73
03-09-2008, 08:33 AM
you CAN get by without spending money on it, but like Ken says its a level 1-2-3 type system.

They have their 'generic' no name cars that you can buy with the points you get for winning or you can use points that you buy with real world money. They also have some licensed cars that you can only buy with the points you get from real world money.

THere's also lots of other extras and things you can get for spending cash, but you can get by without spending a dime.

However, I find the cars handle horribly, the interface seems really laggy, and there are a lot of other issues.

I've played quite a few hours on it because I like to give things a good chance before I give up on them, I don't personally like the game, but I suggest you at least try it out, what have you got to lose?

Wraith

Time.

Message is too short -- dramatic effect lost.

Yankee
03-10-2008, 03:59 AM
I've played it a bit w/ some old mco friends & a few new ones. The game isn't that bad considering, if you put a little time into racing you can buy enough stuff to make your starter car pretty competitive. You can purchase parts w/ points that you either earn racing for free or purchase w/ with real money.

The racing is pretty good, cars & tracks are ok but considering it's all coming from a "free game" you can't complain about much. I've seen much less from off the shelf titles...

As said above, a perfect place to race online while you wait for MWO...

KEN
03-10-2008, 04:06 AM
We tried to work a deal with Aerie Games for the engine they are using. I guess they took my e-mail as a joke lol. It is a very good engine, just poorly put to use with Project Torque. But you are right Yankee, it is a very cool game for being free even if I do see right threw there marketing angle. The interface is gosh darn awful though.

Yankee
03-10-2008, 04:39 AM
^ Agreed, The interface leaves a bunch to be desired. And yes, the marketing angle is paper thin :)

The engine does seem pretty good though, we've had a bunch of great racing.

There are some things you can take away as a positive. I do like the amateur vs pro level of racing rooms, the ghosting (can't hit or be hit by your opponents) in the amateur room is nice. You don't have new peeps taking out the entire field in the first turn, it is a great place to gain experience and become decent racers. This intern makes the racing in the full contact Pro rooms to be even better...

I just set it up on my machine also. by the initial look of things all previous posts are spot on. they do have upgrades that are basically set up for the 10 year old kid that can count to 3 (or more); if you REALLY want to be competitive, you have to cough up real world money; the interface is set up for the average 10 year old who has a parent that gives junior money just so junior won't interupt their precious sports or evening viewing without even monitoring what junior is up to online. aside from these MINOR points, it's kinda fun (if your idea of fun is using a VW golf in a formula 1 race against Maclaren's and Honda's). Ken, whenever you guys are done, it won't be soon enough, but however much time it takes you guys to accomplish this is going to be a step forward for TRUE gearheads and weekend warriors. we believe in you guys Ken...

I can see why it's a free game, hardly any control over the cars at all, was promptly removed from my PC, fastest I've ever taken a game off my PC.

DevilMan
04-04-2008, 07:13 PM
really? Hmmm I have a lot of control over my car. The only thing I dont like, is the ghosting of lagging players. I forgot about that with racing games.. I think Im ahead the entire race, just to find out in the end that the guy stuck in corner 1 was really in front of me the entire time.

kevmeister
04-04-2008, 10:34 PM
LOL. you have NO idea...how many times that happened to me with MCO, Devilman. I was screamin' down the hazzard hollow I don't know how many times and would see some guy's car jumpin' here and there and thought I had it in the bag and end up comin' in 2nd or 3rd. :D

DevilMan
04-05-2008, 05:27 PM
Yup.. thats one thing Ive never figured out with racing games how it ghosts like that. With shooter games, you can see the laggy players.. they jump around like the zombie girl in the ring, but at least you can see them.

Gues it's down to the fact that I've played so many proper racing games of late that I'm more keen on proper car handling than I am driving on ice.

Yeah I downloaded it a few months ago, but it would not run on my laptop. I finally got around to re-downloading it and transferring the setup file to my PC(on WildBlue Sat internet, that limits my DL for the month), now I am up and running!

Kinda fun, no way close to MCO, but still fun catching up with old MCO racing buddies, and whipping the little starter cars around the track!

P.S. if you find it hard to control your car, !!!!!TURN OFF THE DRIVING AIDS!!!!!

My car was twitchy as all get out, then I went into the settings, saw the aids were ON, and thought, "Well I can't get any worse!" and from then on the car went where I MADE it go, NOT, where IT thought I should go!

Look me up, I am ZER_MCO

Yes, PT is a good free game. I am a Game Sage there (test betas, run events, help out in game etc...). Look up kooda there if you pop in. I'm mostly on in the early AM EDT. Like someone else said, if you're having trouble with the car, make sure you turn off driving aids. I've been playing since CB in Sept., filling the void left by MCO. I played MCO for about 2 years. There are some ex-MCO'ers there, Conducter, Sleeper, Trukr. There's more. They have the MCO_xxxx names. If you have trouble in rooms, the best thing to do is find some guys that you get to know and make your own rooms.
If you ever have any questions, and see me on, feel free to in game mail me, or hit me in chat. You can also pm me in main forums. We're testing a major league patch now that will add quite a bit to the game soon.

Alot has changed in PT it has made it much better same up grades but the new cars make it more fair to the free players. There are new misions and alot more than I feel like typing just check it out if u haven't. I like it, well better than nothing lol

Last month I reloaded PT back up on my computer (I guess all the MWO news got me jonesing, lol). It has gotten a lot better. The license tests are actually doable now. There are still some things that aren't right, and of course the muscle car angle is completely wasted on it. If any of you guys have a club I can join hit me up I'm ArcaneH in PT. I need some people who will combo the explorer tracks and run thunder alley with out being jerks.

xnutt
02-03-2009, 12:35 AM
yep on there as well. xnutt1.

PT isn't a bad game but it's what it is...something to pass time till MWO is ready.

anytime you see X MCOer in a race lobby that's me feel free to join.

I, too, have given Project Torque a second chance. It is much better than it was, even though sometimes my screen goes black and it crashes. But it is a ton better than it was when I first tried it. I'm on Phoebeus(?) or whatever its called server and use this same name. Finally actually won my first few races there today after a hundred tries.

Dogboy
03-23-2009, 06:34 AM
Im in the MCO club as well, my in-game name is Neubaum Turk (you'll never guess how many times I get asked if I'm Turkish....lol). The pay part of the game is actually not required to be competitive. Any fictional car in each class is on par with their "money" counterparts. The only difference is if you want a "real world" ride (i.e. Vette, Subaru, Evo, Corolla, etc...) you have to pay for it. Beyond that, you can compete with any of the cars that do not cost money.

Scrappy
03-24-2009, 03:31 AM
By chance does project torque still have that half naked bimbo on the intro splash screen? Not that I am gay or other wise find women unatractive (I;m married w/ 3 kids), but the depiction I find offensive and won't play the game while its there. It is not "family friendly" IMO.

Or did they remove it? I made a post on thier forum and it was almost imediatly locked, It wasnt beligerant or anything, just a simply stated question on if the splash screen could be disabled... /shrug

Mr. Tuttles
03-25-2009, 08:24 AM
Heya Dogboy aka Turk chatted with you tonight. Now Scrappy, I'm a Christian man and understand maybe your offense in the female representation. However I also believe that God's greatest piece of art is the female face and body, and sadly due to the fall there is temptation(If it's a religous perspective you are pointing towards). Not being preachy but if that's not the point your making then I don't see your perspective. If you could expound on it, I would find it easier to discuss. Sorry I'm old school, I believe a lot of us guys who love old cars love them them due to their beautiful shape, much as we are drawn to women. Just my 1 1/2 cents. Hope I don't offend anyone.

roadweasel
03-25-2009, 07:16 PM
What I caught out of it was that as a family man, Scrappy wished to disable the splash screen, deeming it unfit for his family to view. I believe a parent has that right. Not having seen it myself and not being a parent, I pass no judgement on the graphic but I believe Scrappy is within his right to monitor what his kids view on the computer. Kudo's for thoughtful parenting.

Mr. Tuttles
03-26-2009, 04:30 AM
Sorry if what I said came out wrong. My kid is older and don't think in that vein. I admit if I had like a 8 year old daughter, it might be offensive to me too. And the screen with the female is actually the log in screen, so don't know how you'd get around it. Once again sorry if I came across wrong, but it was just my view point. I'm old school and women and cars have been together back as far as I can remember and that was into the 60s.

I play this game off n on. There are some new changes in the game. There is a track that reminds me of Gasoline Alley. Part of it is in the old river bed I think. Anyways, I go by the name Petty43. My original account was banned for some unknown reason. I asked why it was banned and got no reply.

Hmm.... My bad Ya'll...

I guess I forgot to mention some things here....

Well P/T came out with a Club system a while back. When we discussed it over on majicbus.org, I somehow was designated as club president:-/

Anyhoo, while I don't play it much any more since the latest version removed all the Sim Physics from all modes but Sim VS and T/A, I still am the Club Prez.

Anyhoo 2, The first Club MCO filled up as quick as we could allow new members to join, so I started a 2nd club MCO2.

As of now, with the recent version of the game, MCO had lost some members, as well as members from MCO2 migrating to MCO.
So if anyone is still playing and would like to join the club, PM me in-game as well as send a Club application, and I will accept it.

WE as a club do not try to win KOTH(King of the Hill) since it is based on how much the Club makes in Taxes, and not skill.
Also don't expect it to be an extremely active club, some members haven't played in nearly a year.

PM ZER_I for MCO or ZER_II for MCO2, there is also a 3rd club not under my control -MCO-

i downloaded and installed the game no problem. I let it perform its update and all was successful until i tried to log into the game.

Trouble is when it comes onto the log in screen a lot of the images are somewhat transparent. I can barely see the sign in box and i can't see any text where it prompts me to enter a user name and password. I tried to enter my user name and password in areas provided and ticked the area for the check mark(not sure what thats for) and then hit the buttons below those windows.

I hit the first button and nothing happens, then i hit the second button and it exits me out of the game, then i hit the third button and it takes me to the PT website.

I don't quite meet the min system requirements, but i figure i should be able to get into the game and snoop around. I downloaded all the latest patches for windows and latest version of direct X.

Anyone have a problem like this?

I live in pirateland to be honest. I been using torrents since i have memory. There are a few torrent search engines webpages that i trust. (isohunt, torrentspy, suprnova, the torrent bay, etc) beeing isohunt the best and most used.

As clients i allways used Bitorrent or Utorrent. i just make the firewall exception for the port it uses and never had a single problem.

But rule number one don't search a torrent using google! go to a torrent web page and then search there.
