This news site might have poorly translated the conversation. I got this from what I believe is the source. Here is a link that runs it through Google's translator.

Is EA trying to piss us off even more? I cant tell if its just a rumor or not. I also, am not very concerned either. Waited this long, can wait some more.

If its the same ole game, ebay here I come! I don't care if I can't understand what the people are saying,... steering wheels still control the car, and the pedals make it go and stop. The only thing that would take some time, is figuring out the auctions and finding the right parts combo's.

It may also might be a test to see if the game could work again. Sometimes the music industry they release stuff over seas to see how it does, then they bring it to the U.S.

This doesn't make any sense at all!

why would they do this?

i bet it is the survey we took online to vote for the best NFS game or it could be the bailout.

I emailed EA about it, waiting on an answer now.

I'll post their reply here once I get it.

I hope it's not a lie and I hope it does real well in China. May make EA rethink the NFS franchise and from what I've seen lately that wouldn't be a bad idea...

Though I've heard they've stopped the NFS series all together... I'm doubtful EA will stop milking a franchise.

Ok, maybe take a step back a minute. Remember, this is EA, I dont trust them at all. I wouldnt be surprised if this is MCO in name only bearing no resemblance to the original at all. Doubt they would bring back the old programing in this modern age nor do I think they have been secretly rewriting it unlike what the MWO team is doing. This will likely be far more NFS than MCO.

With EA, I'll believe it when I see it and then I wont trust them even if it does make it to the USA, my moneys with MWO

If EA does release the original game, I wonder if my Core 2 Duo computer with 4 gigs of ram and Nvidia 8500 graphics card will be fast enough. HEHEHE. Anyway, MCO would hold me over until MWO comes out. EA would probably have to patch MCO for Vista. Think about this, broadband is wildly used now and server technology has grown maybe they could step it up to 8 car races. There was so much that I did not get to do the first time around.

The subscription page still works, and it was able to give me my old user name and password. When I try to login, it keeps taking me back to the login page without an error. EA still has some of those jsp files. Does anyone know what EA's latest patch server url is? I am going to play around with registry settings while I have MCO installed.

Bonus question:
Does anyone know how to get MCO to bypass the patch server?

Thank You

Hahahaha - best post-MCO story ever.

As for bypassing the patch server, someone built a patch to do that a few years back, but were never able to build the 3 other servers it takes to make a single instance of MCO.

And if there's anyone still at EA who could figure out how to string the confusing mess of archaic server technology together into a functioning game, i'm sure we'd hear about it. It sounds like this whole thing is due to some bad translation and fans of the game are no closer now than we've ever been.

Hahaha - he most definitely could. But would he if he hasn't already? And that's a lot of years to remember something as complex as the MCO server setup. We're talking Oracle 7 technology here.

I mean, don't get me wrong, i'd love to see it. I just have little faith that it'll ever happen given the amount of time that's gone by.

Unless they bounced everything over to a SQL server and either cut out or completely revamped the security encryption of every little communication, the lag would be horrible.

I remember people playing from many far away countries back in the day, but they all complained about the lag.

Yea, i doubt any old fans would care. Just to get into the game would be awesome - you'd learn to deal with the lag.

Bit of a problem if it is released there that I see.

There is a game called Project Torque that is a free MMO racing game online, and it has a coutner part with a more advanced set of cars/tracks and such that is in China. The thing about it is, you cannot log onto the China servers if you do not live in China.

I fear this may be the same should this ever happen.

If my memory serves, I read where an old programmer for MCO said there was one patch, that if someone still had that version it might be playable. There was like a 2 or 3 day window, and someone would have to have that version still on their computer. Maybe I just dreamed that up though.. who knows. to much ganja when I was younger.

I checked the link out, but I could not make sense of what they said with the translator. Does anyone know Chinese here? Google translated "Need For Speed Online", which is pretty close "Need For Speed: Motor City Online". Are you sure that they did not mean Motor City Online? I am not familiar with Speeding Car Online.

Yea - they patched the 'debug exe' of the game at some point but updated it within hours. I've actually talked to Yikes more about this and there's really no chance that anyone has it. More importantly, if someone did have it, they'd have no way of knowing unless they were aware of what commands to enter in the command line to trigger the debug functionality.

I'll double confirm that, the chances of anyone actually having a hard copy backup of that time are so rare that it's practically nonexistent, believe me....we looked.

this reminds me of when someone left there game in test drive while they shut down the servers. test drive stayed active and they were able to drive around. i think it was BigBen who did it. he finally pulled the plug after so many days.

anyone ever look into that? how did that work?

Still have mine...just incase I don't know how EA could do this but it doesn't me they have been screwing us for years all madden fans know about the glitches every year. I know people have been searching for a way to get MCO back online I don't think it ever happened. Have to watch if it comes back the states we'll all have to buy a new copy I bet...I'd just wait for MWO I think EA burned us all last time...and would do it again

So I can't get the stupid translate thing to work,.. but I take it the game is just a version of latest need for speed title? Or something totally new, possibly a version of the old MCO we all knew and loved?

http://www.n4g.com/pc/News-268726.aspx has a nice little write up on it with another link to more information.

When the shutdown notices came out, I remember people speculating that MCO had just been a guinea pig for EA to open up a new open world racing game. I've heard from some reputable sources, including legit game journalists that EA is naming the game "Need For Speed: Motor World Online". And just to add insult to injury, they take Ken and crew's title! What a bunch of jerks! haha

sounds and looks to me like it isnt gonna be MCO, looks like they are gonna have more than just muscle, that would be totally worthless to try and bring it back yet ruin it at the same time, if they want to do something like that they need to make it one game with a expansion pack you dont HAVE to buy if you dont wanna, so you can have all your muscle heads in one set and all your rice rockets in another

honestly i could care less about this news if it is real. EA cut us off from probably the best racing game ever made. and now they are just realizing it? they r beyond stupid and dont deserve my money after 6 years of wanting it. plus EA will NEVER listen to a word we say regarding the game. the MWO crew will always listen. we dont have to go through a bunch of bullshit just to try and talk to the DEVS here. plus id rather play a game that people built with a passion for the game and not just to make money. the NFS series died with MCO. this NFS:WO crap will be nothin but new cars and maybe 2 classic muscle cars. so nope im not buying.

I wouldn't give EA a good old fashioned penny, actually even if they offered it to me free for playing before, I would ask them to shove it up their _____ (well you all know where I am going with that), and send another $100 bucks at Ken and see how this show goes.
