View Full Version : The next 6 years....
The next 6 years of my life are going to suck financially. I pre-ordered my black with blood red racing striped 2010 SS Camaro today at my local Chevy dealer. I got the rear spoiler package as well since I love that 69 spoiler look. I traded my 2002 S10 pick up on it. Hope I made a good choice with it being a new breed of auto. It will also be my VERY first NEW auto purchase. I've never had a car with 0 miles on it before. Here is to 450 bucks a month for the next 6 years... :deal:

YIKES!
You should model it for MWO as a rare developer car :)
was this a special order and did they show you potential pictures?
I was reading muscle car review today and they had a small article on the new camaro but they didn't say anything bout the new Z28 models
from what i read:
-V6 LS models start at 22,995 (base price)
-6.2 422hp v8 SS at 30,995 auto transmission
it went on to say the new L99 400 HP should deliver up to 23 mpg on the highway compared to 6l80 6 speed tranny.
They have a book (which you can download online I believe) they sit down with you and you pick out all the options you want as far as color inside and out, and what extras you want. They have a spoiler/GFX package for an extra 2 grand. My Camaro is the following: (I said Z28 I know, I am an idiot, its a Super Sport.)
Camaro SS
6.2-liter LS3 V8
Black with red stripped exterior
Black and silver leather interior
4.5-link independent rear suspension
Brembo four wheel disc brakes
StabiliTrak traction control
20 inch wheels
RS appearance package
Bluetooth
remote start,
USB connectivity
OnStar and XM Satellite Radio
They had 10 colors to choose from. My racing stripe is a dealer option, not a factory option.
My price.... $32,890 - $4000 for my trade in. They told me there wasn't an automatic option for the SS though. Not that I wanted it.

you should make a custom MWO front license plate for it with the MWO logo on it. that would just make it more awesome.

Very nice ride Ken....congrats on the purchase.....i've been watching the production of this closely for about 2 years and have been excited all along too though i'm waiting for the vert to come out sometime next year or if there is any way i can order one in a drag-pak like the challenger i will be all over it
As far as a z-28 option there isnt one...GM is sticking with there SS campaign.....hopefully and i do mean hopefully they will bring the Z back but it is looking unlikley
for anyone who would like to know more about this new gen5 camaro check this forum http://www.camaro5.com/forums/index.php?
The only reason I pre-ordered was to avoid the dealer mark ups. I can tell you now in October when the dealers start getting the inventory, the cars will be marked up 6-8 grand more then the retail asking price. And its not GM's fault, its the crooked dealers that want to put that money in there pockets.

yea.....the majority of the dealers out there will mark them up but there is a few out there that still believe in the old ways of not totally raping the consumer

Congrats on the purchase boss. Most people are missing the fact that you are paying on it right now. I think thats a wise choice, by the time you pick it up (although I believe they should deliver it to you) you will have knocked down the principal quite a bit. Wise decision.:D

first congrats on the new ride -
per your above options list and the "remote start" then telling you no automatic option for the SS leaving me to belive your getting the 6-speed maunual box
i see a red flag cause i have yet to see a remote start on a manual transmission due to clutch pressure needed to get the car to turn over (not power up -but crank) unless they have come up with a system where car is not in gear and e-brake up - but that would leave me concerned with thoes who leave the car in gear when they have the car parked - i am saying all of this from the standpoint of "dot the I's and cross the t's with your dealer on that whole issue - make sure your not paying for an option that dosent apply to your particualr car
again congrats on the car - there is something to be said and felt when you get your first brand new car

congrats on the new beast. that thing is gonna look great with that color combo. and that engine and transmission combo is the best bang for the buck out there. The LS-series engines are very strong stock and with just bolt-ons can get huge amounts of power out of them.

and whiplash has a good point, I'm pretty sure there is no remote start on a manual. check this link on camaro5
http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10714&highlight=remote+start
You guys bring up a damn good point. I just checked my invoice and remote start is list at a $300 option that I am paying for. Considering they did this on a computer you would think that option would have "grayed" out for them. I'll be on the phone very shortly! I'm not familiar with newer cars, but am I getting shafted on cruise control as well? I've never really seen that on a 6 speed manual before, but the newest car I have ever owned is my 2002 chevy truck and its an automatic.
ws6lou
01-31-2009, 05:58 PM
im almsot positive cruise control works with manuals. The new mustang has it with their 5-speed manual so the camaro would have to. I think even the 4th gen fbody's had it w/ manual trannies. so i dont think your getting shafted
roadweasel

my cobalt has cruise control and it's a 5 spd manual. Cruise only works in 4th and 5th gears though.

They do make remote starters for manual transmission cars. The clutch does NOT need to be pushed in. It is bypassed with a safety feature, and if the car is left in gear, and/or the e-brake isn't on, the remote starter will not work.

So Ken, what happens if Pontiac comes out with a new model T/A?? You gonna stick with da Chevy or stay true to Pontiac?
I have lost my faith in Pontiac. They are heading the same direction as Oldsmobile. Wont be long now until they are phased out. Hell they offered to shut down Pontiac as a severance package to get bail out money from the government.

ken, you should have no issue with the cruise control and being a manual gearbox.
and the remote start is not going to be an option on the manual gearbox cars just make sure your not going to end up paying for it giving the dealer the extra 300 smacks

Any word on when you take delivery?
I really considered ordering an SS, but after talking with the wife for weeks about it came to the conclusion the "coolness factor" would run out after a year or so. I still want one, I think they are nice! I drove the RS V6 model, and those little suckers have some pep to them,.. I can't imagine what the 426 HP SS does :) I have only seen 1 SS in person so far, at a car show. It was orange with the sun roof and was nice. Most dealers around here have a V6 model, but no SS's sitting at any dealers near me that I have found.
I've also done a lot of reading up about the gremlins they are having. If I were to get one, Id almost wait until the 2011 model so Chevy can work out the bugs. The trunk and windows are the biggest complaints of problems, but have also read as bad as paint falling off and cars just dieing as well.

Like my dad said, "If I'm gonna buy a muscle car it sure won't have a V6. I'd have to buy the SS package V8"
He's got money tied up in the farm right now, so he can't afford one anyways..

I know he said October 13th, but people are getting their cars they ordered already. My dealer told me the wait was a year,.. but he also said there are NO SS's coming out until fall, and nothing has a sun roof yet. The next day, I saw an SS, with a sunroof in a car show... so he was full of ca-ca. I bet Kens date of delivery has moved up. If it hasnt, I suggest buying one off ebay,.. there are about 25 SS's on there right now,.. all brand new, most for just a touch over MSRP.

Hmm. That's a lot cheaper than that factory five ford i wanted, and it's less work. Wonder just how much it would cost to import one to the UK, but the tax from the green parts of the government would cost... And i don't care! If it annoys enviromentalists, i'll drive it.

Get the SS - keep it nice. Don't forget the collectible factor. I have a friend who still has his first car - a 67 gt350. He bought it off the showroom floor when he was 17, drove it for 40k miles and now, he's in his late 50s, and it's like new in his shop under a tarp worth around 100k. He claims it's his "retirement". He hauls it out for the occasional trip to a car show or sunday drive with the wifey.
I say buy the SS and save it as well as you can. I only wish I'd been smart enough to grab up grandaddy's 58 Biscayne when he died.

I'm less than impressed with the horror stories going around from people who have already taken delivery of these cars. Rumors from front bumpers cracking under very little stress, the mirrors falling off, interior being made rather cheaply... Hope its just that... rumors. But GM hasn't been known for quality cars these past few years.
