ohhh man lol, your getting into some complicated stuff here lol
all i can really say is to look on the net for poly modeling tutorials.
this is one of the more popular ones, i never managed to finish it, but its what got me started in max, http://www.3dtotal.com/team/Tutorials/fiat500/fiat500_m01.asp
its an ugly car, and the tutorial uses meshsmooth, which may not be the best way to make a game model (too high poly). but the basic concept of modeling is the same as i use. :D
its daunting, but dont give up, its not as hard as it looks, its just kindof complicated to really get the hang of, but once you do, anything is possible ;)
also, i would recommend having a look at http://www.smcars.net/forums/
it is a 3d modeling forum with mostly cars, take a look at the works in progress, and check out the wire frames of other peoples cars, look at how they lay out the wire frame mesh, and how they control the normals/smoothing-groups/mesh smooth it will prob make your life alot easier down the road :)
if you really get stuck, then you are welcome to post up here, or ask me (or someone else lol) over whatever instant messenger you prefer lol (mine are in my profile...) and i know i at least, will try to help :)

personally, i usually get my prints from SMCars (http://www.smcars.net/forums/), their print section is at the bottom of their forums.
there is also Thomas Suurland's site here (http://www.suurland.com/)
and Onno Van Braam's site, here (http://www.the-blueprints.com/)
Onno van Braam also offers tutorials on his portfolio site, here (http://www.onnovanbraam.com/index.php)
Suurland also has a few tutorials, but they are for older versions of max, and for the Rhino 3d modeling program,,, might serve as a guideline, since most 3d modeling packages are actually pretty similar ;)

it could be that for some reason your blueprints were either cut up wrong, or otherwise got moved.
or it could be that you have found the biggest issue with modeling from blueprints,,, blueprints are very, very rarely accurate, and almost never line up :(
simple reference photographs are worse, because even though they are pictures of real cars, they have perspective, and are not usually straight on shots
i solve this by using prints made from another 3d model first hehe... i take the 3d model that is already made by someone else, and render out orthographic/no-perspective views and use those as blueprints for my own model hehe,,,, :D
if you have no choice but flawed prints,,, just average it out, and make sure you are using plenty of reference pictures,,,, and you should be using reference pictures anyways
models will never be truely accurate,,, most you can really do is make them close enough to fool pretty much everyone...
unless you have one of those Über expensive 3d scanner things,,,, lol
