i just got out of the hospital today. Been in there since sat night, went in with major adominal pains. thought it was food poisoning or the flu. went in to emergency and had to have a surgeon look at me. went in few hours later for CT scan and then after the surgeon seen that he said we had to operate right away. Turns out my appendix was ready to burst. Instead of having a routine surgery with 1 inch cut i had a 7 inch cut and they had to move some organs around to get my appendix out. Guess if i waited any longer i wouldnt be here kinda scary! just glad to be home and out of hospital. in lots of pain but could be worse i guess lol. Anyone having bad luck around xmas as well? lol!
Well, sort of. Could be good news or bad, depending.
The wife has to go in for fetal assessment tomorrow, and she already knows her amniotic fluid is low, so that means the placenta may be breaking down too early. She may have to have a c section, and the baby would be premature, but O.K. She seems to be fine atm.
On another note, as I was getting off work tonight, I saw emergency vehicles outside the building I work in. There was a car way off the road into a snow bank, and another car with it's front smashed in, and a large pickup in the same state.
Hope everyone is o.k. there, but that will definately put a damper on Xmas.

First off, I wish you a speedy recovery camarokid and Ayce I wish you and your wife the best of luck. I have two kids of my own.
I have a friend Chuck who went to the hospital to have his appendix removed. He had the same problem real bad stomach pains and sick to his stomach. After surgery he went home with a $15,000 bill (no insurence). A week later he got deathly sick again and went back. The doctor said that his appendix was not completely removed and he need emergency surgery, Cause the first doctor made a mistake!! After his second opperation he got a bill for $90,000 dollar's. He lawyered up and took it to court and is still waiting to see what will happen. I wish I lived in Canada cause america's health care system suck's so many people die everyday cause they can't afford insurence or medication's.

I hate to get political, but this simply is NOT true and I can't let people be misinformed on this. Hospitals by law are not allowed to deny emergency medical procedures. It simply isn't true that people will die because they can't afford insurance or medications - hospitals perform the necessary procedures and deal with insurance later. Medicaid picks up the tab ...
I also fail to see how nationalized health insurance is going to fix any problems our health care system has. If people cannot afford insurance, how is taxing them to pay for a nationalized health care system going to suddenly cure the problem? Either you pay for insurance or you pay taxes - which do people like better? If the insurance is good, I definitely would rather have private insurance that was good than go through a slow, cumbersome government with 100,000 rules and regulations. Uncle Sam already takes enough of my money, I don't need him stealing some more to pay for insurance.
One way to pay for nationalized health insurance would be to heavily tax the wealthy and make them pay for the underclass's health problems. I really do not see that happening any time soon ... plus it that really fair?
Health care costs and Americans who are unwilling to be preventative about health is the root problem. If Americans were willing to life active, healthy lifestyles and prevent health problems from happening in the first place, we'd all be a lot happier and healthier for it. Until then, we'll continue to harbor couch potatoes who eat at McDonalds for lunch everyday.
That said, I do understand that people have health problems that are hereditary. I had to have a sinus surgery last year because of chronic sinus problems. Luckily, I had good insurance to cover it. I also struggle with acid reflux disease, despite eating a bland and healthy diet, because of my physical stature and hereditary characteristics that make my stomach produce too much acid.
We definitely need a change in the health care system, but turning American into a socialist society just doesn't make much sense.

When I was down and out and fell into the ER needing emergency surgery and 10 days of a hospital stay, Catholic Charities stepped up to the plate and covered my $20,000. in medical bills 100%. I had no health insurance, was unemployed, and was even denied welfare and food stamps, but the hospital assured me out of the gate not to worry about the medical bills, they WOULD help. Had I been working, or a homeowner, woulda been a different story but for those in true need, there is help.
<soapbox>On the other hand, it frustrates me that the medical industry runs hospitals as a business for profit. My belief is that you heal because you can, and doctors shouldn't be millionaires. Hospitals should be for healing, not for profit. AND... since we're on the subject... What is up with making the people who care for us in the hospitals work such grueling hours? I honestly think it's dangerous for someone who's at the tail end of an 18 hour shift to be doling out increments of medicine that can cure and kill both. I wish they would pass a law making it so hospital workers could only work 12 hr shifts (except surgeons in long surgeries of course). I don't want someone who's exhausted, and hopped up on vicodan measuring out my medicine! Crimeny, they won't let truck drivers drive more than X amount of hours without a break... they won't let airline pilots fly without a break... medical staff does a way more important job and they need to be alert and rested to do it correctly! </soapbox>

I'm not trying to start a big debate but you guy's have to see the movie Sicko. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0386032/plotsummary It's more like a documentary and they compare America's healthcare to Canada. It show's people in the movie like president Bush and puts a price tag over there heads, showing how much it cost to pay each person off. They also interview people who got sent home to die cause they couldn't afford operations. It may not be an everyday thing but it is true.

I agree with you on that note, nobody should work them hours especially when we rely on them being that they are the only ones that fix us. Up here in saskatchewan, possibly all cananda not to mention the big cities (toronto, montreal, calgary, etc) the doctors/surgeons go home they dont work long hours. its rare to see one work over 10 hours. Its nursing that will put in a 12 hour shift. And we have been so short for nurses its not funny. Some nurses do there jobs very well and others are just in it to be about the big pay cut. I guess there never is a win/win situation in health care.
