Where are you located? I checked a nationwide date base for salvage yards and there were only a few available. They were from $1000 for a good runner to $250 for a rebuilder. I see them for sale every now and then around Indy also. Do you not have a motor for a core atleast? There are a lot of companies that might have a rebuilt but would charge a nice premium if you didn't have a core to trade in. I have a few sources I could check if you want to go that route.

Just do what everyone else does and drop a SBC or BBC in it!
Just kidding :D I only said that because that seems to be the easy road a lot of people take including TV shows. I cringe when I see SBC motors in AMCs. It takes much more creativity and dedication to stick to your brand.
I love the ponchos, Hope you find that 455!

Located up in Edmonton, Alberta Canada and sorry its not a Judge :) Its got a 350 Pontiac in it right now so don't have a core to rebuild and looking for one to rebuild or maybe a crate one if I can't find one to build. Seen quite a few 400 stroked to a 455 but I would prefer a true 455 and I really do want to keep it Pontiac so when I beat them chevy guys I can honestly say Pontiac POWER.

hey, CTD, nice to see a fellow Pontiac guy here. Hate to say but 455's are becoming quite rare. Anyone that wants to do a build up seems to want a 455 block. My recommendation to you is pick up a book called "How to Build Max Performance Pontiac V8's." It is a great book with a lot of engine combo's from reputable Pontiac engine builders. My personal preference is Butler Performance. If you are going to have an engine built by someone, I recommend them.

I'm planning on letting the engine shop I used to work at do most of the machining but I am planning on building and designing it myself. As for How to Build Max-Performance Pontiac V-8's, that is the bible I am going to use to help me design and build it. It is the best book I have been lucky enough to lay my hands on for any make of engine builds.
Thanks for the tips and comments everyone has been making.

try looking on yahoo for a poncho link. I found one once that links to numerous poncho jobber parts sources and factory repro parts. in fact, in Edmonton there is a salvage yard that specializes in poncho's and camaro's...
My 1979 trans am has a 455 Pontiac. Of course not original. But I have the olds 403 that came out of it still.

Spent alot at that place in Edmonton, might as well give him a plug as he has helped me alot on getting interior parts and trim parts. Davidt's is a wonderful place for all firebird and camaro people to get those hard to find parts for your ride. When I talked to him last fall he had a 455 block but it was just a short block... no complete 455 for sale. I will try that google link and see what I can find but I am starting to wonder if I should maybe just do up a 400 for it as they seem much more available.
Thanks again everyone for your suggestions and Ken, you can send me that 455 any time you feel up to it ;)

Careful with the oil plugs.
Remember Pontiac dip stick tubes press fit from the inside of the block.
Call Jim Butler at Butler Perfromance and talk with him about the combo first.
Read Jim Hands Pontiac Performance book.
:D Good Luck and if you have questions just ask. :D

You dont even want to know how much I have spent blowing up Pontiac motors.:D
I only have a 473 now because I have blown it up so many times thats how big the bore is and I went with a 4.25 stroke crank after the stock one let go.
I also have forged 800hp Chevy 6.8 inch rods now because the forged super duty stuff came through the bottom of the pan ;)
I left a rod sticking out of the pavement:evil:
lOlz, we got a spambot up here ^
