Hey there, me and a good friend of mine really miss this game a lot and we have talks about it from time to time. Well we discussed why perhaps the game went under like it did, but we both agreed what killed it for players is the fact that if you happen to have been there from the beginning, players got too powerful and rich and bought up all the unique parts, and new players really didnt have a chance to be good because they couldnt afford anything unique.
So my suggestion is, is it possible for this version to limit the number of unique parts to have? I think this way everyone has a chance to stay competitive. Thanks for reading my input and keep up the great work.

The main thing that ended the game was a test EA conducted with the game itself. If you recall, a movie had come out called The fast and the furious. EA saw how huge that movie was, and thought that perhaps muscle cars weren't where the money was. Remember the Eclipse and Supra? Those were the two hero cars in FaF. The hard core racers bought them because they were lighter, and had a lower coefficient of drag than anything we already had. The younger kids bought them because they thought they were cool. And then everyone else bought them cause they were new, and we hadn't had anything new for too long a time. So now EA wrongly thinks that what everyone wants is a sport compact car racing game, so Need for speed underground was born, and MCO was canceled.

I think EA started throwing out all the rare parts when they knew the game was being shut down. There were always a couple of "rare" parts, but most of them you could get your hands on, and everyone knew about them. Towards the end there were so many rare parts it was kind aggrevating to me, because I spent all my free time searching through the car auctions, and still didn't have enough time to be competitive.
So Im with you, I hope there isn't a huge treasure chest of rare parts. A couple of things, like a blower, a nitrous bottle, would be cool.

Agreed. I stated something similar in another thread a while ago. The generation of younger people (a large portion of gamers) had just been swooned by that movie. EA, focused on money as any "good" corporation should be, decided to kill off MCO and switch to something which would make money off the import boom.
Yes, we are a minority, but they should have at least released the server stuff, or the code for the server.

that was the part of the whole thing I never understood Wraith: why didn't they at least make the server side software available to be licenced or bought? I mean, what good was the software to them if they cancelled the servers? thats almost like what Chevrolet did when they recalled all the EV-1's that were in existence...

I still can't figure out why they didn't just do the obvious - create a gamestyle/shard for each genre of racing on the same game engine. Have a Tuner City, Muscle City, 4x4 City, Exotic City, etc. Seems to me that could make 'em nothing but money.

Thatīs exactly why, the marketing department already know we would make some "out-of-box-tunners" go home crying after a few laps on the multiplayer..
Also, they would provably have some issues with the ESRB ratings, ESRB would rate it as "AKR" (a*s kicking risc)
On a side note, i know we havenīt many updates and i was kinda quiet.
Thatīs mainly because iīv been researching the best way to get a special looking on our city.

If you ask me, the biggest and most glaringly easy-fixed problem was that you made far more easy money running Time Trials than you would doing races. Sure, you COULD run high-entry races, but it wasn't EASY and that's what a lot of people were looking for, especially those who came along on the back of the import tuner scene:
Why spend 10 minutes with the chance of no reward when you can run 5 mins and get a few hundred, if not a couple of grand?
So that meant nobody ran open races and it became a subscription-based single player game - obviously nobody is going to keep paying for that. Add onto that the fact they released it using an outdated graphics engine (it should've used the Porsche Unleashed one but instead used the one before), they alienated their core fan base by adding the imports while trying to cash in on pop culture and you really needed to spend way too much time grinding to have the cash to afford the better parts to be competitive.
I read a really good write-up on the whole failure a long long time ago (back when I used to do regular Googles for a replacement) but I can't remember where it was now. The site may not even exist any more.

I was level 42 when I quick MCO. The main reason was because they advertised american muscle racing ( no imports ) on the packaging. If I wanted to race rice I could have bought need for speed or any of the other titles out at the time. Don't get me wrong, I'm not against imports but don't tell me american muscle racing and then 2years later introduce imports to attempt to draw a different crowd.
On a side note, i know we havenīt many updates and i was kinda quiet.

We are definitely still here though. :D

Right! For goodness sake, If I had caught on I would have gathered up a lynch mob, and hung people out for display! Could have started a wave of hard core MCOers to drop those silly crumple toys and show EA that that's not what out game was about!
