View Full Version : Van is Toast
Well. just thought I'd let you know, I'm vehicle-less for a while. :(
On the way home from relatives last night, I hit a moose at 100 k.p.h. Thankfully, we are all relatively o.k. I have some minor cuts on my right arm and hand, the wife has several small cuts on her face and chin. Our daughter is fine. She was in the back and sleeping when we hit it. The moose came up through the right side of the front window. The van is pretty much a write off, and I only have PL PD (basic) on it, so the insurance won't fix or replace it. Guess I'll have to see what, if anything, I can get for it for parts.
The only good thing is it was a small moose, maybe 6-700 lb., so it didn't kill us. I'll have to go to the yard tomorrow and see it. If I think of it, I'll try to get some pix.

Ouch! Sorry to hear about your van, Ayce. I've hit a deer before but moose are BIG! We have them around here too. Just last week there was a mama and twin calves in a yard in the Spokane suburbs.
Here's a picture I took from my front porch last winter. I think she was enamoured of my satellite dish. She came back 2 days in a row and just stood out there by the satellite dish, right behind my pickup.

Well, I managed to get a couple of shots of the damagehttp://img141.imageshack.us/img141/6882/moosedamage01un9.th.jpg (http://img141.imageshack.us/my.php?image=moosedamage01un9.jpg)

The moose we hit was about the size of the one in RW's pic, maybe a bit smaller, but not much.
Van is on it's way to the crusher. :(
I got the last few salvageable items out of it, including the less than year old battery.
Unfortunately, I found out this morning that my insurance was cancelled due to non payment. They didn't get my last payment. Gonna be a while to sort that out.

They didn't get my last payment.
Knowing insurance companies, they probably did...
Sorry to hear about this. Poor moose :(

Tell your wife it's time for a family car that'll withstand a moose..

Not sure how "Moose-proof" that is, Rollout. If you clip a moose at the legs, like I think we did, it would just slide along that long hood, and right into the car. Not good.
I'd also hate to ruin a classic like that. :(
:D

some friends of ours hit a moose also with their minivan. they had the same damage and the same situation: the vehicle was totalled off. I feel for yuh, ayce. a deer once cost my wife and me about 2000 dollars damage to our highway semi (body panels and paint-thank god I did the replacement labor myself ). if yer wonderin, we had a 5 grand deductible on the Freightliner so thats why we paid for it outta pocket...

That was totaled? Looks like you need a windscreen to me. What were all the damages? Anyhow, can I offer you anything to help?
Thanks for the offer, but not much could be done. There was some dash damage as well, and the roof over the windshield was damaged. Not to mention the cleanup of glass and moose bits inside. :(

Yeah, the body shop bill would have been a consideration. Still wish I could help, good luck Ayce.
Best way to help me, would be to help the team. You could donate a few bucks to the project, or donate time and skills, like I and the rest of the dev team do. :D
