I'm a PS3 guy so I have no idea about PC's so I enlisted the help of a mate to build a budget yet decent system. This is the basics;

Asus M5A78L-M-LX AM3
AMD PhenomII X4 Quad 840 AM3
2x Elixir 4GB DDR3 Ram (8GB total)
Gigabyte ATI HD6870HD 1GB PCIe
Seagate 500gb SATAII SV35
Aerocool VS9 Midi Blk Case (has decent power supply in it and affordable)
Windows 7 etc.

All ready have Benq HDMI 23 inch motintor, wireless mouse and keyboard.

What do you guys think of the system? Like i said its a budget PC but still decent. Mate has similar setup and plays BF3 on high with no problems. For $600 I'm not complaining!

Looks good. For gaming, I'd get a decent sized SSD and run your games off that.

Yea, nice budgeting on parts there. You can always get some upgrades when you build some headroom in like that. Upgrade to an SSD as Pairuhnoyd said, upgrade the CPU, upgrade graphics...there's lots of expandability in that setup. The key is a nice motherboard setup from the start, that's what makes your expandability. Nicely done.
