View Full Version : So what the hell happen this TIME?!?!

Hey guys,

The forum is back open. The site is gonna be down for about another 3 months though as I redesign and re-engineer how its going to work. First of all we were hacked on the main page. The forum was not compromised. Someone inserted malicious spam code into a security flaw in our back end system. If you have antivirus, adblocker, or any kind of protection then you most likely didn't even notice. But it was there, and people reported our site to google (as they should have) and were taken down for some time. Either way the site is back sort of, google has re-listed us in the google search results. We have updated the forum to the latest version which has a lot of cool new features, but we lost some of the older cool features we had too like blogs. We'll bring this back via the new website.

Now getting back to what the hell happen to us. As luck would have it, about 6 months ago I was injured at work. I had a muscle cramp in my right leg that lasted 8 and a half hours in my quad. I was hospitalized and no one had a clue what was wrong with me. The cramp caused my quad to tear 4 times, the biggest tear was 9cm followed by painful swelling that I still have till this day. Well 6 months later, 1 cat scan, 2 MRI's, and 3 ultrasounds later I have been diagnosed with lymphedema. For those of you who don't know, that is when your lymph nodes get damaged and your limb(s) fills up with lymphiatic fluid. There is no cure for this. No corrective surgery. I'm unfortunately going to have a disfigured leg, and have to deal with this tooth ache like pain and swelling in my leg until I die. There is theorpy I have to do that should help with the swelling and pain levels. As it is right now workers comp has dropped me once they found out I have lymphedema because they consider that to be a health issue, not a work injury. Well I didn't have this before I was injured so as you can imagine I'm going to have to lawyer up. Until then the stress of the hospital bills, and missing work without pay has been catching up with me.

In light of this news, and being rather depressed, I attempted to pass this project onto a new group of developers as long as they kept our promises of making the game available to all of you for beta testing, and keep you all in the loop during development. Last I heard they were working on a new engine from scratch for MWO, but then they lost all contact with me, making me look like a dick for holding the site in limbo with the forums closed for all this time. Getting back to my injury...

The light at the end of tunnel for all of us, is that once my doctors finish up some paperwork for me, I can collect disability social security and basically medically retire. Once I have sued workers compensation, they will have to pay me long term disability, so they will be giving me 60% pay for as long as the court awards me. So what I'm saying here is I'm about to have A LOT of free time to work on Motor World Online. In the mean time, I'm begging you guys to stay motivated and not give up on me. Motor World Lives.

Wow Ken so much going on behind the scene with you and MWO.
Sorry to hear about your disability, that hole process is nothing but a headache! I wish you the best and hope you get all this straightened away.
I have to say I'm surprised to hear the dev team is starting from scratch but I'm sure it will be worth the wait and they have good cause for starting over.
Ok Ken thanks for letting us know what's been happening, take care of yourself and will keep my eyes open for the new build of MWO.

Ken,

What a bombshell, I'm sorry to hear about all the bad things that have happened. I myself am disabled, but I have been since birth, alot of people think that is much harder to deal with, but to be honest I think it is much harder to adjust after you have something happen to you. I can't believe that even through all of this MWO still remains a concern. Feel better my friend, make sure your health stays paramount

Ralph,

I read what Ken said and it doesn't sound like they are starting from scratch he said:

" I attempted to pass this project onto a new group of developers as long as they kept our promises of making the game available to all of you for beta testing, and keep you all in the loop during development. Last I heard they were working on a new engine from scratch for MWO, but then they lost all contact with me"

So I wonder if the original team has regained control

Terribly sorry to hear about the life issues Ken. I hope and pray things do get better for you financially and physically.

As for the game, we all wait patiently, some more patient than others. Don't worry, we aren't going anywhere. :)

Our original team is back at work, Taigo, Ken, Ayce, our core guys are on it. They are picking up where they left off because the other dorks did nothing. Keep us in the loop? I didn't even hear once from 'em. MWO is like Kens boomerang. It's always gonna come back to ya buddy. Might as well get used to it ;)

Ken, sorry to hear about the lymphedema, that's really got to suck hearing that news.

If I can get away with getting some overtime I'll be able to add some to help with the server costs, but my hours were recently cut because all of the OT I was getting... Wish I would have know sooner, I was pulling in an extra $150-200 a week 3 weeks ago. I still may be able to work in a few bux in a week or so, I lost a day for the 4th.

Glad to have the forums back online though, the new layout looks nice, different, but nice. Loving the auto save during posting!

KEN

Thanks ZER, and no biggy, the server fees are 57 days out from today, not 27. I need to fix the typo! Server fees are only $80, the $120 is the vbulletin fee for the next 2 years. :(

Don't feel sorry for me guys. It's been my dream to be a full time game developer and it looks like I might be getting my wish.

Well, you know the old Chinese proverb, "Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it."

As far as hearing any thing from the "other" dev team, I got squat. Sort of felt down for a while, and just tinkered away at the BAGP Reboot. Now I feel revitalized again. :)

Dropped 20 through paypal, let me know if it doesn't post to your account for some crazy reason. Glad I could contribute and keep up the good work. Getting to play MCO again was worth all of that money and maybe more we'll see what the finances look like next week!

No problem. I want to see this succeed. You've worked countless hours and my minuscule contribution is nothing compared to the time and money you've invested in this project. Plus, I know firsthand what it feels like to be part of a team that's had it's rug pulled out from underneath it, so to speak. I don't want to see this happen.

Ken,

Sorry to hear the full ramifications of your injury and condition. Thank you for the update on yourself and also about the progress of MWO. While this news is both sad and happy at the same time, hopefully in time it will be all happy news!

I look forward to seeing MWO develop into the awesome game/world we all know it will become!

I just saw the email today about the forum being up and hadn't noticed anything for a long before (I'd posted to RW but I guess she doesn't read the old DC forum). I'm really terribly sorry to hear the problems you've had and I hope this doesn't mean you'll lose your job or anything (I still have sleep in my eyes so I may have missed it being mentioned in the first post). I hope the other guys didn't steal any hard work from MWO, sadly there are several bad types like that.

Best wishes for the future

Sorry to hear about your troubles Ken. My prayers are with you and your family for a good resolution to your ordeal. I think you know it but it bears repeating that we are all behind you, the guys and MWO 100%. I'm sure everyone feels the same but for me I will be around til this thing gets done so we can all enjoy it together. Thanks for everything and look forward to continued progress!

Well that sucks!! i know a bit of your pain, as i had an accident at a job that had me off for a few months, but not bad enough to really have me medically retire. But still, had to mess with the govt to get a part of my pay while i was unable to work and all. Having the end of a finger cut off and sewed back on doesnt end your life, but dang does it ever slow you down!:P lol So i'm rooting for ya buddy!! hope all goes well for you, and for MWO.:) Let me know if i can do anything to help by the way. I' ve done some HTMl, Basic, Lua and a small bit of C++ in the past, and also a bit of 3d modeling, so i got good basis in alot of things, and i learn fast for the thing i don't know yet, so just let me know if i can do anything at all to help you further this project.:)

good luck on suing them turkeys in court... that is just wrong wrong, wrong of them.. i'm getting ready to have my hand rated from nerve damage that has never gotten better (pierced with object).. that was california. funny, but i haven't lived there for 5 years and called them to see if i could get a doctor,, and they were the ones who suggested that i get a final disability statement so they could pay me a settlement... how weird is that. cool

really appreciate the time and effort you have put into this project.... it has given me something to look forward to each day... i am also a disabled vet 100% and have not done much the past 3 years,, so it is great to have one of my past "depressive" issues (mco shutting down) partially resolved... it is a great victory!

good luck with all your stuff, i know how aggrevating and time consuming it can be..

Thanks everyone for the support as an update to what is going on, my condition is manageable now, I have to wear this crazy compression stocking with a pump on my leg but it gives me back almost 100% mobility and no pain. So I'm able to keep my job for now. They have me on light duty doing office tasks until they find me a new permanent position. If they don't find a new position for me they will lay me off, at which point I'm qualified for social security. I can't get it right now because I'm still working and making more then $1,000 a month. So some light at the end of the tunnel. I haven't pressed to get a lawyer for workers comp yet, as long as they keep me working I wont take them to court, but the second they let me go, I'm going after them full force. I'll keep you guys posted!

09-10-2011, 11:12 PM
Wow, it's been a while since I've checked in. Sorry to hear about all the bad news Ken!

On the positive side . . . a lifetime of pain isn't always as bad as the doctors make it sound lol. I ruptured a disc in my back about a year and a half ago now. When it happened, I couldn't stand up straight. Went to the emergency room, they did x-rays, and told me it was really bad. I was sent home with tons of pills, and orders to stay in bed for 4 - 6 weeks, after which I would begin getting up for a few minutes at a time. I was told I would need to have surgery to get two vertebrae fused together. I followed up with my doctor who came to the same conclusion, that it would take months to heal, and I would need to have the surgery, and was going to be in pain for the rest of my life.

Three days after the ER visit, I got out of bed, and drove to my kids school to pick them up. That night, I went back to my evening job as a delivery driver. The following morning, I went back to my day job. I haven't had cortisone shots, haven't had the surgery, and haven't missed a single day of work since then due to the pain. I DO have a little bit of pain, but not anywhere near what I was expecting.

I"m telling you this story to give you hope that it may not be anywhere near as bad as the doctors are telling you it will be.

Now then, as for the work, sorry you lost your job, BUT here is hoping that you are able to sue the snot out of 'em, get a nice living wage, and then make MWO into the monster of a game it should be, and sit back and collect money from your loyal players!

Just read through the whole thing. Glad to hear you're doing OK and have a legal case. If you had a nice chunk of change from that, you sure could live OK and have plenty of spare resources to put into the game development. Sad to hear about things like this, but at the same time it's nice to see there may be some good to come out of it. Best of luck to you, and there may be some more cash headed your way when I get my paycheck/school financial aid money xD.

Haven't forgotten about you guys, I must apologize the stress of waiting for unemployment is killing me, I've been selling off some personal assets to keep from falling behind on the bills. The good news is I should be awarded unemployment by Friday this week. Because of the situation of why I was let go, I am receiving 80% of my check for the next 79 weeks. That will be a HUGE help to me. I know my lawsuit with workers comp will be a few years but when that comes threw I'll have some great funding to really get MWO on the map.

As far as development goes, the new alpha is still being worked on. It doesn't have 100% of my attention but I'm still working at it. I expect to be back into full swing in a 2 more weeks and I will devote most of my time to getting MWO into beta. Guys I appreciate the support, stick with me here for a few more weeks and everything will be back on track here.
