View Full Version : MWO and Achivements?
How do you guys feel about Achievements? For those not familure with Xbox Live, achievements are points rewarded to you for completing a certain goal or task set by the developers. I was thinking MWO could have its own built in achievements which get rewarded to your profile for anyone to see in game or here on the forums. Achivements can be giving for a range of anything from something simple like trading your first part or selling your first car, or even more complex such as racing in 20 online events. Achievements really wouldn't do anything but show other players how dedicated you are to playing the game. Your opinions or thoughts?
Not a bad idea, as long as they aren't too difficult to achieve.
A good example is in Trackmania Nations Forever. I have been able to get through to the second tier of the red tracks, but now you have to get the gold medal on the previous 5 tracks to advance. That means you have to have the time and tenacity to do the same track repeatedly until you find the perfect line. That sux, imo.
Nothing wrong with track records, all the same, 'cause there will be those that will go after them.
One that comes to mind is "Winning your first online race" and " You have won this race (x) times"
I would have to balance it 50/50. Half the achievements anyone can get just for trying, where as the other achievements come from actually trying. I would think the hardest achievement would be gaining a level 30 reputation.

doesn't matter to me TF2 for the PC has achievements but the new update has achievements unlocking new weapons soon.
anyways, I got some ideas for achievements
like:
-own all the variants of one car, (IE a mustang)
-get a top speed of at least 150 mph in a race or drag
-do a pink slip race and win but give the car back that you won (be a good sport award)
-do a custom paintjob
-get a famous car (KITT, General Lee, kuwalski challenger
-engine swap achievement
-do a turf war and win and distibute your winnings amongst club members
-trade parts among 3 or more club members
-race on all tracks at least once
-big crash in a race achievement
-own all the cars
-start a race with 4 or more different people each from a different club
-build a car filled with in game sponsors
-report a cheater achievement
-build a car for someone else
-build a car and pass it around to your club mates award
-build a car for a new player
-hold the top record times on more than 5 different tracks
-race someone from a different country than you
-hold a burnout longer than (insert time here)
-do a skid (insert length here) long
-drift for more than (insert time)
I'll come up with more later

i like the idea of an achievement, but i don't think its good to get to in depth on the achievement. many games for xbox, all or most achievements must be done online and a lot of online play is ruined by people trying to achieve a certain achievement. i know the developers of call of duty made all the achievements only achievable in single player mode because of that reason

I'm not 100% sure on my answer but I am pretty sure that MWO will not have a single player feature. I could be wrong though... :P
Its a good idea Ken. I think some of the goals should be near impossible (but doable) for some of them because people like me, will get them no matter the challenge. It will show a lot of things such as who is a hard-core gamer and who is not. It would also show a lot about your personality and gamestyle. Not everything should be there so everyone can get. If everything is to easy to get, then the people that are better than others will lose interest because there would be nothing left to do. Just IMO.

hopefully achivements are not something you have to do but something you can do if you choose to do so.
achievements are just bragging rights, they mean nothing towards playing the game. You will get some of them with out even really trying.

I agree with the above quote. Just as long as there resonable to get then it will be fine. Make it to hard and people will loose intrest in the game.

I think some should be very difficult - so the aliens have a reason to keep playing too. If it's too easy they're not really achievements, are they?
Like if someone can make a top ten time on all tracks fwd and bkw - that's an achievement. Someone who can achieve a #1 time once on all tracks fwd and bkw is an alien achievement.

I like the alien achievement, would be my ultimate goal and would work my ass off to do it.
Oh, and im still here, just silently keeping up to date. My business is insanity this year so less time online, more time to be outside gettin a tan :)
Glad to read some of the new developments.

I like the idea of achievements for MWO. I have an idea for one also, have a lifetime earnings achievement.

As long as the Achievements don't force people to concentrate on them rather than actually racing against real people, I think they can be good.
So things like "Take part in 500 online races", "Win 10 online races" or "Win an opponents car in an online pink slip race" are good, but things like "Beat the developer lap record on Track X" will just force people to do nothing but solo time trials, and we know how that worked out for MCO :)

the only thing that scares me about achievements is people trading wins to get x amount of wins in an online race. if there is such an achievement have it set so there must be more than 2 people racing for it to count

Achievements would be good. It will give us something else to do between weekly pay checks and leveling up.

I think achievements will improve gameplay because it would give you something to work for even after you are already very good. Sounds good to me.

I say no to achievements....I think is better for people to set their own goals and try to complete them....IMO achievements sort of take away some people's freedom of the game since they get so obsessed about them...I also don't like achievements since people will use them as bragging rights and if their anything like the xbox achievements they usually don't mean crap atleast 95% of the time.
I say let leaderboards be the bragging rights and the competition, not achivements. So if we create leaderboards for fastest LS1 camaro or most powerful MOD 4.6L 4v engine etc then that will make the game addra competition, goals, bgging rights etc.
I think is way funner to actually have the most powerful engine of its kind or fastest car etc then to have 10 achievements that everybody else has.
Damn just imagine different builders trying to make the fastest ls1 or the fastest sn-95 mustang, the most powerful N/A ls7,the most powerful nitrous only ls1 etc.....thats what I wish this game becomes to.

I think it is a Great idea, can we also give awards to clubs and teams along with solo drivers? For example Club X has this many wins at track X. And Club X member or driver Y has fastest times.

In my opinion there should be some difficult ones too. If they don't affect game play and are basically for bragging rights, wouldn't it be pointless not to have some difficult ones?
I mean for example, you look at MWORacerDude01 and he has achievements listed in successfully installing a new exhaust in his car, and another one for successfully completing a single lap without wrecking at a beginner track. That is great for him but what's the point unless there are some more difficult achievements thrown in the mix. Like a very difficult time to get a specific tracks, or having a very good reaction time in the drags constantly over a given number of races. Things like this, while difficult, give people something to work towards, and to me would be the whole point behind having achievements.

Yes I think there should be some harder ones but once the name of the game gets out there many different types of people are going to be playing it. Someone who works 80-120 hours a week may not be able to reach as high as some memebers but should still be able to get some stuff unlocked. Get where im going with this?
Reason why I say this because I do find myself working many hours and dont get to be in front on the computer screen as much as I would like to be lol.

I understand where you are coming from, I work a lot too. I also have a 7 month old son and a honey-do-list longer than I am tall. :( But just because some of us don't have as much time as others do to play the game doesn't mean it should be "dumbed down" to fit our schedules. Given the fact that the "rewards" are done in such a way that they do not give the person any kind of advantage other than wow-factor or bling, I don't see any harm in having some difficult ones that not everyone can complete.
My $.02.
