Don't want to needle you, but I just bought a 4780 1GB (to replace the one that my PSU fried) for $85 :) Buy used from people with a lot of positive heat (heatware.com) off of tech forums and save money ;)

I have had a ton of bad luck with ATI before but their newer cards are appealing for sure. I still favor nVidia chips though. My Palit Sonic 9600 GSO 768mb does everything I want it to, I have had no issues with it all, it runs cool and relatively quiet for the size and best of all, it only cost me $65 with shipping.

Mainstream game developers seem to have hit a slump in the visuals area, which is great since they are now concentrating on game-play and content, so I think this card will do me just fine for a while. Probably until it dies like my 8600 did.

Ive had 4 nvidia cards and none have lasted more than 2 years with my last one fatally crashing my pc to the point I had to reinstall windows and lost some nice programs that were loaded at the factory.
This is my 1st Radeon card and it doesnt ' wine ' the computer. Anyway, Im happy with it. :D

I started with an ATI Radeon 9200 and it died just over the 1 year warranty. Got an nVidia GeForce 5200 to replace it. That lasted a year or so until I upgraded to a 6200, still have it actually and as far as I know it still works. Then I upgraded from the 6200 to the supposedly better 9600XT which was replaced on warranty after a month then again after 5 months, the last one lasted just over the warranty. Which I replaced with my 8600 when it kicked the bucket, and it lasted me from 2007 until September i think was when it keeled over. Not saying any is better, I just have better luck with nvidia :)

@mtuggle My card comes from nvidia at 550MHz Core, 800MHz Mem, 1375MHz Shader.
Palit then Overclocked it to 600 Core, 900 Mem, 1500 Shader. Then I Overclocked it to 740 Core, 950 Mem, and 1850 Shader. Pretty impressive for the price :D

I wasnt trying to put your card down pie. I was just saying this march when I was picking out my card at the 150 price point the 5770 was hard to beat. With the DDR5 ram and and driectx 11 support I figured it would be good for a while considering I dont game alot.

Not trying to be stupid here but how do you overclock the card? Is there a utiliy for doing this? A little bit off topic but Ive been having another problem.
After my last crash and I reinstalled Vista I couldnt Install a game called Medal of Honor. Its an older game but I was able to play it b4 my pc crashed. Im guessing here but maybe when I installed the new hard drive , could it be possible the drive letter changed for my cd rom? I can play other games but some cd's are not recognized even the installation disk for the new card, I spent a couple of hours chasing down the right drivers to even get this card fired up.
Any suggestions on this ?

In most cases the manufacturer who sells the card will have a utility of sorts to overclock it. nVidia has software available on their site for their chipsets, I would expect the same for ATI.

Your disk drive could have just decided to go out. Or there is some sort of driver conflict for the drive. I really couldn't tell you for certain.

I know I was just bragging my mad overclocking skills :P

Disable UAC. Make sure Vista is up to date.

I disabled the UAC last night and everything is up to date. It may be the cdrom, Funny how it will recognize some disk's and not others :dontknow:
I've looked around the ATI site and havent found a utility for over clocking. I might try out the majorgeek site http://majorgeeks.com/ and see if they have one.

I finally got time to pull out that cdrom and replaced it with one I already had and sure enough that took care of the problem. For those of you that smoke, I would highly recommend cleaning your fans. Mine was completely gunked up on the back side of the processor fan. I no longer hear that fan :-O
