I tried cloning the other side but it didnt seem to work--that and the fact I dont know what im doin :D
83 Elcy
08-29-2010, 08:07 PM
The passenger side always keeps the trim and the skin overlays it. The driver side shows correctly and removes the trim when the skin doesn't have it.
Hopefully I explained it well enough.

Cant just flip the decals and put them on the other side, they come out backwards or uneven.

Steel

Lol at Dan we both noticed the trunk
............:D
ws6lou
08-29-2010, 08:28 PM
thanks dan, yea i just downloaded gimp 2.6 to do skins, so im using that as well. guess thats the problem, not sure how to go about fixing it though
Steel
08-29-2010, 08:35 PM
I think the prob with the trunk might be the glare factor in the paint template. you cant get around that glare in the paint. I dont have a clue in these matters but that seems a logical approach..............:-/
Well I decided to give it a quick shot to see how things layed out and here is the result.
If the template was laid out so the hood was inplace with the body it would look alot better.

Hey guys, we just found out that the template is wrong. It has an alpha channel that shoudn't be there, or it's wrong. We are fixing that and we'll upload a new template shortly.

Hopefully I explained it well enough.
Yeah, thatīs a alpha channel thing, it works right if you go to the alpha channel, hold ctrl and click it (so it makes a selection) and then you have to delete the trimming area of your skin (make the place where there are trims with transparent background)
Then it will work really nice :)

Hereīs your solution:
http://motorworldonline.net/forum/imgupload/uploads/80b96f1da166682e161d02cfb8870658.jpg
You should keep even the background transparent.
Now if you wanted to make it have the flames and still change the colors, all you would have to do is to add the flames on the hood and delete everything else with the background set as transparent :)

My atempt for the Two lane blacktop chevy. Its a bit bright. And now i can't seem to remove the damn trims lol.
http://www.motorworldonline.net/forum/picture.php?albumid=124&pictureid=1169
Yeah I cant get mine out either. The game like over-rides it or something. Even If I do a solid color for background and remove the template all together they are still there in-game. I also noticed that the reason the left side does not show the trim in the garage is due to lighting. If you go to the city and drive in a circle, you will see that the side not hit with light does not show the trim.
Anyway, here is a simple flame job. Just need to get it on the hood and roof so it looks decent. But that's tedious lol.

You can give searching "gimp brushes" in google a try. You can just plop them in your "C:/Users/Username/.gimp-2.X/brushes" folder

If you want the trim to be drawn on top of the skin you need to invert the alpha channel on the original template.psd (i think) taigo is the one who knows lol

;19928']how again do u get the trim to be ontop of the new skin?
You have to leave the trims area transparent kinda like this:
http://motorworldonline.net/forum/imgupload/uploads/80b96f1da166682e161d02cfb8870658.jpg
You will find the trims pattern on the alpha channel.

just for the record. You can make the "decals" as diferent layer with transparent background and delete the "teplate" layer. that way you can see the original lightmaping and change color for the car.

Are you referring to photo shop ? Im beginning to think gimp is over rated. So if you put the decals on 1st then make it transparent ? Also , if I rotate the template to put on flames, they come out warped all over the car except the one in the original position. How do I correct that?
That's because you're working on the decal layer. When you rotate the template "body" layer, the decal layer probably stays where it is.
As mentioned, I use Paint Shop Pro9 (Corel, now up to X3) and it shows all layers. Not used to Photoshop, tried it once, went back to PSP.
I tried that too, but that's when I noticed the decal layer didn't rotate with the template layer.
There is a small set of instructions included in the main MWO folder that tells you what to do.And here it is. :D
" Motor World Online (alpha).
In order to use the custom Skin the following is needed:
* Make your skin using the car template and save it as Skin.png
* Rename and replace the "Skin.png" on root game folder with the one you created.
* The skin file MUST be on the root game folder for it to work.
Making the SKIN:
This is a walk trough for photoshop users.
* Open the template PSD of the car of your choosing.
* Select "Decal" layer.
* Paint your skin on that layer using as reference the car body layer.
* After you are done, delete the car body layer.
* Save as Skin.png
*DO NOT flatten (aka merge) the image as you need a transparent background.
NOTES:
* The Skin file is ALWAYS loaded. Make sure you have the proper skin for the car you intend to use
as the game won't check which car you are using.
* If you don't want to use a skin, copy the NoSkin.png and replace the Skin.png file.
NoSkin.png is just an empty full transparent png."
Spelling errors fixed by me.
GIMP is as powerful as (if not more powerful than) Photoshop. Never tried Paint Shop Pro.
You modify the "Decal" layer. You simply use the "Body" layer as a guide. After you are done you delete the "Body" layer. Once that is gone, anywhere you did not modify the "Decal" layer will be transparent. You can also add additional layers such as bmac did on his rust skin.

Can't help with the blotchyness, willie, unless you're painting the body layer instead of the decal layer. As far as when you hit "print screen" on the keyboard, it copies that onto your clipboard, then you have to paste it into your graphics program before you hit it again, or it gets overwritten.
Unless you are using fraps, or other screen capture program, in which case, it copies into it's own folder, usually.
Might have misread that. If you meant when you hit save in your graphics program. it usually goes to your "My Documents/Pictures" folder, unless you specify elsewhere. If your hitting "print" in the program, and don't have a printer hooked up, it saves the file in the printer's queue, and I don't think even Bill Gates knows where that is. :))

Uploaded with ImageShack.us (http://imageshack.us)
Looks right to me.
You have to work on the decal layer, which is transparent, hence the grey and white squares. When you click on the decal layer, that's the one you're working on. For example, if you fill the decal layer with one colour, that's what shows up on the body in game. You use the car body layer as a template, to show you where to paint, and then delete it when you're done. If you add more layers for text, etc. You can leave them, or merge down to the decal layer, not to the car body layer. DO NOT FLATTEN/MERGE THE LAYERS!!!! Save the decal layer as "Skin.png" in your main folder.
If you want multiple skins, you can put them in the skin backup folder, remember to name them differently there, and when you want to use them, reopen them in your graphics editor, and save as "skin.png" in your main folder.
Maybe someone can do a video tutorial for this. I can do one for Paint Shop Pro, but others use Photoshop or Gimp.

Some skinz look kinda like flower power xD , I guess tr yit in a kinda more Hot Rod way :) but I like that one with the red sparks , without numbers and stuff...
I think we need MCO Skins, I would do, but I don't have photoshop, just photoscape (kinda like photoshop , you can do everything with it too I guess) and some other photo editing programs.

I tried to post a pic of one that I did and I can't up load it. Could someone please help with this problem?
Upload it to an outside host such as Google Picasa (http://picasaweb.google.com) or Photobucket (http://photobucket.com/) Then just copy the link for the pic and use the "Insert Image" button. Which looks like a little post card on either the Quick Reply or Advanced Reply boxes of the forums.

Ayce, Pie and Steel have posted pic's that have the trunk painted. I went through this thread with a fine tooth comb and didn't see a trunk fix. I need to finish up the tail end of my skins, but yea BredCooper they are mco reconstructions I will make them all available soon as I get the trunk decals on, aligned ect.
Really like what you guys have posted so far keep up the good work!!!

And again :x awesome work Ralph.. can't wait to see it on my in game. :D
There is no trunk fix, sry. If you saw mine painted. it was just careful painting, matching the cars base paint to the decal colour. I also tried to decal the trunk, and it won't work. LW mentioned way back, that he forgot to make the trunk skinnable. Just remember, this is an Alpha, no fixes forthcoming until beta.
