I know some of you are Pontiac fans like me, but I have read some bad news that there will not be a new Firebird or GTO, not in the near future and probably not at all. I posted some concept art of what may have been. Both of these pics were in issues of High Performance Pontiac Magazine. By the way, this same person who revealed this information in the Pontiac magazine also said that Pontiac will continue to be the performance division. Weird logic if you ask me.

The GTO looks like a rip off of the new Challengers, and the firebird,. as always a new front and rear end on a camaro.
Id like to see Pontiac go with new styleing, instead of the retro stuff like everyone else is trying to do right now. Remember a good 15 years ago when Pontiac did the "Banshee firebird" prototype.... now that was cool and they should start going that direction.

I agree with you on both points, I just think it is sad that the supposed performance division from GM really does not have any performance cars. By the way when Pontiac and Chevy went the route of the Banshee styling, 1993-2002, they got their lunch handed to them by the Mustang. You could buy a Camaro or Firebird that would just kill a Mustang at a traffic light, but they could not outsell the more retro designed Mustang. I believe they made about 200-250K Mustangs a year and Pontiac and Chevy combined were building just over 100K of their F-bodies. I would argue that if they had a more retro styling to them and borrowed more from the past, instead of going futuristic, they would not been beat up so bad in sales and may have tuned sales around.

Your right, I see your point. Even now think about it... the new mustangs are everywhere because they keep looking more and more like the old ones. Same with the 09' Camaro's, once they hit the dealerships I bet they will be a dime a dozen around towns as well. The vette in my opinion has been on life support for the last 15 years. Now if they went back and tried to reinvent the stingray styling, I think that would be a hit.

dude imagine if they would make a stingray.....they would just have to restyle that ZR1 corvette and bam! theres your stingray
The recent issue of High Performance Magazine has a cover story about the new firebird/gto. Pontiac is only claiming its not coming in the next 2 years. AFter 2 years, the possibility COULD be there for one of the cars to return. They will wait and see how well the Camaro does first before they decided to bring one of the poncho muscle cars back.

Pontiac really is GM's performance division when you think about it. Look at all the new GXP Packages with the V8's. More performance than you'll get from most cars these days.
I drove an 05 Bonneville GXP and it's pretty beefy, nice tone and good throttle. If only I could afford it...

Man I have to disagree on the corvette. If you have not driven them i suggest you do. It is quite amazing. esp the ZO6 and ZR1. They cost less then a lot of other muscle cars but still way out perform them. the ZO6 being only 100k will run with 150-200k Ferrari and such. The reliability is also crazy good with them now.
I have driven quite a few high horse power cars and nothing is as easy to drive daily as the new corvettes.
