View Full Version : iPhone MWO?
Hey everyone,
Kind of a weird question/poll, but I am just trying to gauge interests. Would anyone be interested in being able to access their MWO accounts via an iPhone? You would be able to log in, check your account, your messages, build you car, sell and trade parts with other players, but you would be limited to only being able to run your car on a test track. The new engine we are using will allow us to export a major portion of the game to the iPhone and I might just be interested in getting a development kit if the interest is there.

I vote no,
Here's why and it is simple.
iphones are too expensive and AT&T is the only carrier right now for the iphone. iphones are only good if you do not have a laptop and you are on vacation constantly but if you can afford an iphone, you can surely afford a laptop. It would be better just to have a laptop capable of playing MWO on vacation than to buy an iphone and use it for mwo purposes.
iTouch on the other hand is a bit cheaper, its iPhone but without the phone part. I'd say wait till we actually have a game then produce the content your talkin about to the iTouch.
so i would go for the itouch later on down the road.

I have a feeling that the game would be going down a bad route if something like that were to happen. To me, it would seem like the Sims taking over MCO since it was the popular pop culture of not having the balls to do something with your life but rather become a tyrant in a virtual one that put something we all loved out of commission. It sounds great on paper but think of this. Phones are good for talking on, maybe even checing messages and e-mail but the whole texting craze and even watching movies or playing games on it is completely daft. Keep it simple, man. I can't wait to see what this game will do when it comes out.

texting is crap because its quicker to call the person on the phone and some people who are slight;y handicapped (like me) can't text worth a crap.
I say no, for the reasons above and the fact that, AFIK, the iPhone is not available world wide yet. As I understand it, it's only available in the US, through AT&T, so that would leave a whole lot of fans out of the loop.
If, and when, the iPhone gains worldwide availability, then would be the time to consider making the game available on it.

also say no
I'll have to go wit NO on that one too....
More from the Liability standpoint.
Remember how MCO consumed our daily lives, well you go and put it out for a mobile device like the Iphone, your going to have GLOBAL traffic accidents spreading like wildfire, all because someone had to check in on the want adds while in the middle of 8 lanes of traffic. :D
That and the Yuppies that have Iphones wouldn't Respect all the hard work that went into MWO.

I say no b/c it would add to development time and I know only 1 or 2 people with iPhones. Maybe if the game was complete and it was like "Ahhhh why not" then I might not be so against it. Totally agree with ZER on the traffic accidents.

I am an Aplications Engineer, not necessarily a software programmer, but I write script all day long to customize our software product for customer's specific needs. With that said, my philosophy is always give them more than they bargained for! If the engine that you are using has the capabilities to generate iPhone compatible software, <expletive deleted>-an-aye right you better do it!
So what if iPhones are a bit expensive... I don't have one, but I am not jealous or mad at anyone that does. I don't like the iPhone because I am a Microsoft guy. I bought the top-of-line Windows Mobile phone and you can bet your sweet ass if MWO was available for it, I would want it!
iPhones are no longer AT&T only. LOTS of the people that own them have unlocked them, and use them on other carriers. All of the reasons for not making the iPhone application to me seem childish, especially the yuppie term. Inside of a lot of those yuppies is the same kid that's in you that wants to build bad-ass race cars and challenge people for pinks.
In this revolution of technology you would not be thinking of the future of MWO if you did not pursue the iPhone option. Certainly don't let it delay the release of the PC version, but don't stop from doing it after your beta is all proved out and the initial release has hit our greasy hands.
I have a quote that I use for our software... "The only limit to Adapt, is your imagination!"
I think that should apply here also.

I say no, also. it sounds nice but if you remember, there were some people whose virtual characters were constantly 'snapping-up' rare parts and cars and flipping them for a fortune. remember what that did to the prices of some cars? and some of the more 'hard to find' parts? we appreciate that you want people to get the most out of this experience but is this the pandora's box we REALLY want to open? just a thought...

What the heck do part's prices have to do with iPhone features? The accessiblity to auctions and such? If that were the case, then you can limit the access through iPhone to buying store parts, building and running on the test track. The boundaries can be set from the start, but don't limit the magnitude of the application to what if theories. Access to the basics of MWO would be a great feature to allow you to fine tune everything. I still say go for it!

Thats exactly what I'm talking about Z. besides, I see enough of these turkeys trying to drive and text at the same time already. I haven't hit any of them yet but I'm workin' on it:D
I was expecting this response. I was just curious regardless. It would obviously come after MWO is live, but perhaps we will wait and see if the iphone becomes more of a craze as I predict it will. ipod's and itouch's are the number one selling MP3 player, and Apple computer is making a rather large come back these past 2 years. Soon the first few versions of iphones will be in the 100 dollar range and people will start "iSheep"ing there way over. I know I will lol, I think I'll run this poll again sometime next year and see if any thing changes. :)
