Look over the right. Look under engine being used. What a kick to the nuts. Using the same engine we are... again. lol

ouchies!!

any chances of getting a cease and desist letter from EA because we have the same game engine and almost the same name? I for one would be super pissed!

KEN

very doubtful. I just thought it was funny that we would both choose the same engine for a MMO racing game.

HA! Figures. Shows how good Unity is, when EA uses it instead of their own engine. Either that, or they're trying to save money by using an already built engine. What's 1500 bucks per seat to EA, compared to what it would cost to develop their own? At least they couldn't sue us for using it as well. :D
I did notice they dropped the Online portion of the name. Maybe their lawyers said they couldn't use "World Online" because we have them together in our name.
I also noticed they are using the tracks from Carbon(copy) and Most (un)Wanted. Is that just to save $$$ or because they have no imagination. Probably both. Also easier for the kiddies that have been there before. No challenge there. ;)
What NFS:W won't have? Our muscle cars/trucks, inspired by/original tracks and our already growing and friendly community. So There! :p

Budget wise they are playing this pretty smart. I would figure they licensed the $350,000 open source version of Unity. They reused the tracks/art from 2 previous titles, so instead of paying a crew of artists $300,000+ for a new open city, they just took the 2 tracks, and 1 artist to seamlessly tie the two cities together and presto instant MMO game environment. Even the cars are being reused from previous titles. They have almost no money tied up in this game, and this is how they are going to get away with it being a no monthly payment game and rely solely on investor advertisements.... pretty much the idea we had.

they just tryin to get a slice of our pie...the only difference is that our slice will taste so so so much better...this makes me want to get this game out and shove it down EA's throat...we will make EA and its developers look silly when MWO is still being played, with a huge community, long after NFS:W is dead and gone

I was playing the beta before, and from what I can tell from the beta crowd... it's exactly what you expect. Bunch of kids with no driving skill always talking about how wonderful their <insert tuner car> is than the other guy... I'm currently hitting 10-1 wins-loss against these people in a charger. Despite the only handful of tracks they give you access to, it seems none of them know them... I suppose when the game goes public that could change, but I'm not holding my breath.

Overall, I think World won't be a bad game, so long as everyone goes in knowing it's basically Most Wanted/Carbon with a MMO twist and nothing like MCO. Knowing now this game is based off the same engine as MWO though is quite a relief. It was very stable and still managed to make a good looking game from it.

Oh, and when I first started, I didn't realize it was basically just carbon/most wanted's towns. I got into a race around the campus/golf course area and I was getting the weirdest feeling of deja vu. :p

I played the beta a little this weekend and didn't find it all that compelling. To be fair, it was really unstable and difficult to get a feel for whatever their 'final vision' might be. Some of the tracks are pretty cool and running from cops was fun, but the car physics aren't very realistic and it keeps reminding me of NFS3.

If i can get in on another beta, i'll probably play more, but i certainly wouldn't buy it at this point.

I played NFS:World also. SUCKS! Graphics we're alittle bit impressive tho, on my 3.0ghz p4 w 6800ultra it ran I was really surprised, then on my brothers SLI 9800gtx with duo core looked beautiful. But the game was very unstable and alot of bugs (beta I know) and I can't see the point in the game really at this time.
Running from cops was kinda dumb, fun, but cops are dumb.

I just can't wait for MWO to come out!! and then Test Drive Unlimited 2!!! :) so exciting

MWO will a car mans game. Never been a big fan of any of the nfs series. Got old quick and i am sure that is what is going to happen to nfs world. Will be a proud mwo member long after ea drops that game too.

NFS:W is serious bad, i have yet to play a worse racing game online.
Its like they looked at TDU and thought, hey lets copy that, but leave out all the nice features, the psysics, and lets use and old Most Wanted engine.
Theres no feeling to the game, since sence of you being online at all, like when you think "hey police chase through the town where all ppl are", and you figure out when in a police chase, you go singleplayer.
Cars run on rails, the city is crappy, i really dont understand why they even bother.

Even MCO was better than that, when they took it off the market.

Im looking forward to MWO so much, in my book, i have yet to see a game, that brings that much fun, and feeling to it all.

I'm signed up to the Unity newsletter and nowhere does it mention EA

Even if they did buy up Unity they would have a hell of a job getting everyone to C&D, it's like MS buying Linux out

Not impressed at all with the beta. It feels like one of the cheap budget Korean RPGs that rightfully never sees the light of day in the West, but with cars instead of elves. Since this is really EAs attempt to catch up with Test Drive Unlimited I expected a far higher level of production (TDU might not be great but it at least feels pretty much like a finished game).

I see some evidence that they use the game engine from NFS Shift. I have witnessed datetime port of NFS Carbon city and reports of NFSMW tracks, Carbon Dodge Charger model.

Open beta.. my first try. First impression is that it's like TDU with power ups and plenty of short cuts. And everything is in fast forward mode by the looks and feel of it. Just the roads are a tiny bit smoother but the cars move around them like they were on rails. Maybe if I upgraded my car to go 100km/h faster I might actually be able to spin it out.. but right now I'm not able to do that even while applying the handbrake.. No touching the brakes ever, just tap the handbrake in the hairpins but then, there was probably a short cut you missed if you needed to drive through a hairpin anyways..

However, my biggest gripe with this beta is that I can't even use my supposedly supported wheel now.. so I was playing with keyboard. I'm sure they can fix the little kinks before release, but I was expecting a lot more.

I'm since Closed Beta 1 in World, so a member of World Garage^^, and World is awesome, I know, it's not like MCO, or like MWO will be.But I don't close up for this, I have everyone single NFS's, and the only I can't give in is Porsche Unleashed and NFS2.

For sure the first Betas were the best, less players, pretty empty servers. But now it's kinda drowning in huge numbers sof players...:-/
So, who just came in now, can't say anything about it.;)

So, I'm just waiting for MWO, WO (release) and HP :)

Chaul

Open beta is still more of an indication what it's like on release day than any of the closed betas.. Then it probably quiets down in a few weeks or months and gets playable again.

The Problem in Open Beta was , too many People participated in this Beta.Servers overheated so overloaded and were just disconnecting players.

It's hard for Europeans, cuz Asian Players played as well on Europe Servers and the Server met it's limits.Anyway it was a Global Issue:-/
But an Asia Server will also follow...for sure World needs more Servers, one for Australia.

Wow, puh...

Open betas are good stress tests on the server, but server lag alone does not explain all the other game stopping problems that still have not been fixed. Controller support is broken at least on Win7 and there are some UI issues and crashes to desktop unrelated to lag. The game is not for me obviously, but I still had fun testing it. They've promised to fix all the blockers before release and hopefully they do.

It's a very arcadish game with very little effort on making handling of the cars believable. On game physics, it's a step backwards for the series, but if you like that, go and play it. I miss the power slides and PU kind of pits..

last closed beta was kinda fun. I hate arcade physics, but its still pretty fun to take out a really slow car and beat noobs in porsche rentals that couldnt drive to save their life. I've crashed way to many times and one of my friends is bugged and cant play at all but we were still going to give it a shot after release since it was free.

Now, free players have a level cap of 10 which could easily be hit within a day and with this cap your pretty much stuck with a handful of ricers to drive and thats it. Why would EA ever announce a free game if their going to make you pay to actually play it anyway? most likely in 3 years they will take the server offline for sims 4 online and the people who payed might be offered a crappy game to play in return for not being allowed to play what they payed for anymore.

The "free" part of NFS World works as a demo to make sure the game even works on your system. I think it's good.

In my eyes, the game is not free and was never meant to be free. They pay for the servers by selling starter packs and boost points. They'll tune the rules just so that most people will feel compelled to by the boost points to stay competitive and to keep the servers running. I bet they'll make cop chases more difficult, add difficulty level of single player races and add rent-only cars that can only be had with the boost points. The moment people stop buying enough SpeedBoost, that's when the servers will be taken offline and they'll release the next revision of the game to restart the whole thing again. :p

hit the nail on the head there chaul or ditch it for the sims online 2 and Earth and Beyond 2 or just make extra OLD republic servers for Star wars

Figured I would add this in now that they have posted it. The game is completely free to play, no paying to get past the level cap, because they removed it. They listened to everyone to remove it for once.

The article.

http://www.needforspeed.com/post/need-speed-world-goes-free-play

I am just playing NFS and MWO no matter what, because they are fun to me. I know most of you are against EA for a good reason.

For the people like me that bought the starter pack for World, we get 3 free 7 day rentals for the tier 3 cars. I would rather have it be triple the amount of speed boost then we got from buying the starter pack. It would be better then the cars that we will get after acheiving those higher levels.

The way i see it, games are no longer a monster enterprices kindom. There's a lot of ppl out there with the spirit and the ideas. The problem was that back then it was hard to get your hands on a descent game engine to be competitive. Unity3d along with some other game engines opened up the world to the little guys. They opened it so much that even big guys like EA games feel thretened.

NFS:world is just that. A bunch of little guys who where hired by EA (probably paying missery) on the strugle to bring the fight into the genere again with out risking too much. EA games is a monster that needs a lot of food and they just can't get that food from a free MMO. If you ever see a mayor change on NSF:World it gonna convert into a payed MMO.

Lot of people has eyes over Motor World Online. Even EA i bet. This is a new era for guys like us.

We will see, but as it is now, they just did a big change from making it a demo to a full game by removing the level cap for the free players and eliminating any VIP status that the pre-order players had or the ones that just got the starter pack had over the competition.
