My current system's on the way out

This is what I had in mind

Case Coolermaster Elite 335 Case - Black
Graphics Card ATI Radeon HD 4870 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
Hard Drive Seagate Hard Drive 1TB
Memory Corsair XMS2 8GB (4x2GB) DDR2 PC2-8500C5 TwinX Dual Channel
Motherboard Gigabyte GA-MA770-UD3 AMD 770 Motherboard
Optical Drive LG GH22NS40 22x DVD±RW SATA Dual Layer ReWriter
Sound Card 7.1 High Definition OnBoard Sound Card
Warranty 1 Year Onsite Collect & Return Warranty
Processor AMD Athlon II X4 Quad Core 620 2.60GHz
Processor Cooler AMD Approved CPU Cooler
Power Supply Corsair CX 400W ATX Power Supply

I've been told that the spec is a waste of cash, I should go dual core and 8gig of ram is a waste of cash.

What the hell?

I work with video/audio, and that can eat up ram and HD space, I'd rather have the RAM there for it to use

8gigs does seem like a lot.... but if you do a lot of work in CAD programs or video editing, it could be justified. Also helps to future proof it. Way I see it, if you can afford to put it in, you have no excuse not to.

I assume this is going to come with a 64-bit copy of Windows 7? I wouldn't settle for anything less if I were you.

As for quad vs dual... well, I think that all depends on the programs you are using. Those that are programmed to take advantage of quad cores (which some of those high end video editing programs surely do) will see an advantage in using it. Like I said before, it at least future proofs it. Plus, if you plan on playing Bad Company 2 on that computer, you need all the cores you can get.... game is seriously CPU intensive.

yeah if u can afford it then go for it...it all looks good...if i had the cash i would have as much RAM as i could get and i would put an Intel i7 CPU in it...along with a motherboard that supports PCIe 2.0 and DDR3 RAM...but thats only if u want to future proof and got the cash:D

I'd only make one change.

I just got rid of my 4870 in favor of this card. (same price range) I like it much better.

The 240 is no slouch. The 285 is nice but not worth all that money for an extra 10fps for me!
