If this viewer is what you are referring to than no it isn't going to work. This viewer is for the old/failed game engine..

do you know if its going to be a similar style .jpg skin?
You can work in any format you like on the skin, we will most likely release it as a jpg, gimp, and a psd photo-shop file to make it easier to work in layers. If Taigo is ok with it, we can release that file now but with out the garage app it will be hard to gauge how the skin will work for your design.
The old car viewer is dead and gone. We call it the Garage App as well because it will actually be of more use then the old skin viewer. It will also be part of the MWO game and offer offline play so you can work on your cars and race on the test track if we ever take the servers down for maintenance and such. The new 1957 Corseret Leastairis a lot more detailed as well.

How about .bmp and .png? Because I don't have GIMP, I'm a n00b at Photoshop and .jpg, well, .jpg quality just sucks.
Hmm every graphic on our site is a jpeg. The file will be released at 100% quality low compression. PNG is basically the same thing but allows you to save an alpha layer that will not be used for car bodies. Its not an issue we can release a format pack for the skins.

Cool, hopefully I can start making vinyls soonly ...

I have CS4 photoshop so thats not really an issue. It would be great if we could get the jpg for the '57 I'm not really concerned with weather or not its going to work with the old skin viewer. I was just wanting something to do to contribute, and I thought i could work up a couple of skins before the warehouse app comes out and then tweak them once the app comes out.

Without the viewer, you wouldn't be able to see how the skin wraps effectively to perfect a skin. Patience........we all want it now to skin.

Like I said i could work up a couple of skins while I patiently wait for the app then tweak them when it comes out. (the last sentence in the quote)

Thank you, but I don't need GIMP, I have Photoshop CS3 Extended, I just can't work with it. Our computer came with Windows XP and MSPaint, over the years I learned to work with Paint, and it's a completely different way of working than PS.
It would be great if we could get the jpg for the '57.
yea, I want to start working on some paintjobs too.
Ah The GIMP is actually a lot like PS just free. And more community support. Just a bit of a learning curve. I've used it for about 3 years now. Mostly photo editing but some creative texturing as well.
Only program I couldn't quite get the hang of was Blender. I could make nice models and renders but it took FOREVER.

Modelling just takes a long time, doesn't matter which 3d program you use.

Has there been any progress on a skin template now that the garage viewer is done?
Just curious.
Yes, its about complete, coding and all. I just started a new job with a fioptics company (wahoo finally making some real money for a change) and I have been going threw some crazy training the last few weeks. Literally working 8am-9pm with classes and then working. The only free time I have is the weekend, which I hope to find time to complete it and release it to open beta testing. Again don't hold me to it, I have no idea if I will be asked to work Saturday or not. Crossing my fingers lol I need a BREAK!

thanks for the update ken and gratz at the new job.
Thanks everyone! I'm really liking the new job, great company! One of the services they offer (100MB internet up/down for $55 a month) is extremely popular despite our economy so I'm working some serious hours, even in training. They are hiring in a bunch of new people so I have been promised it wont be like my previous job where I worked 16 hour days. Don't worry the skin viewer is coming. As I said, its definitely done code and artwise, it just needs some last second adjustments, splash screen, icon, menu, some GUI Icons and then put into a nice installer package and we are golden.
Awesome! (and congrats with your new job ;) )

Do they really PAY people to harass the girls? Hell, if I had known that was a paying job, I wouldn't have been doing it for free for all these years :D
