MWO Garage application

This is a direct quote from Ken in another thread that needs it's own title:

Hey guys we are gearing up to release the MWO Garage application. This application will let you connect to the MWO server and download new cars as they become avaliable. This will also be a part of the final game as a way to view your cars and inventory offline (the game will save an encrypted xml file to know your last known inventory.) The point of this app for the moment is just to kick off the car skinning contests so it will be a beta for a while. We will continue to develop more and new cool features into this stand alone app as time goes on. The other point is that it will eventually be a mini offline version of the game allowing you to play with your last known inventory, make offline adjustments and tests and take practice runs on a test track. Something to keep you guys busy while the servers are down for tests and upgrades and so on.

BUT... to the point of this thread we want to offer you guys some customization! So for the first beta you will be able to play around with buying rims and tires for your 1957 Chevy Belair.... err 1957 Corseret Leastair.

That is the whole point of the garage app! :) We hope to one day have a built in skin editor for doing vinyls like flames and such.

It´s something like a abandoned warehouse\factory, there will be a roof and a lot of stuff lying around.
There´s still a lot of work to be done, but we will get there :D

No, the iphone app will be out well after the game is out and running. This Garage app that we are working on is for the PC/Mac and we hope to have it done in time/very shortly after the holidays.

Ken has mentioned elsewhere that they've been putting the energy into the garage app and that the latest logo contest has not been forgotten and will be announced "soon". Hope that works for you because otherwise you'll be unhappy! ;)

I just got to say that everything is looking great. Its just unbelievable how this game is coming together. Ken my friend i honestly dont knw how you do it when you have so much other stuff that you have to take care of every day. i speak for everyone when i say this thanks for your time for all of us you are a great person. We have decided to do warehouses instead of garages. It gives you a logical place to keep and work on all of your cars. You can't exactly see the whole warehouse right now but there are lifts, engine hoists, tool boxes, and other tools that will be interactive.

We aren't going the same direction with car spinning and the such. Instead of a 3d car against a 2d background it will be complete 3d environments. The camera spinning works just like the one in Street Legal Racing: Redline.

I was offered extravagant prices to part with just one from ppl who were trying to collect an entire set of the mustang skins.......I hope I can build the same fond memories here.

Thanks everyone. Wasn't trying to start a sympathy hijack thread, though I do appreciate everyone's concerns. The person that passed I was close with only threw email and phone conversations. He was my half brother, and lived on the west coast. My family is not very close, we can put it that way. Its rather sad when death is the only thing that brings us together. A semi pulled out in front of him, and he tried to lay his Harley down and it didn't work out. He'll be sadly missed and I will be adding him to the Motor World Online dedications.
