I got nostalgic the other day and brushed the dust off this gem from the NFS series. Aside from MCO, I'd say it's the best racer EA ever made. I'm a bit biased because Porsche/VW are my bread and butter, but playing this game again reminds me so much of MCO.
It has the customization of engine parts, virtually the same physics, lots of old cars.
Not that I condone piracy, (but it is EA, and I figure they owe us after taking MCO away) but there is a version on torrent sites that's 'enhanced', works well on XP (I was able to set the screen res to 1680X1050), has all the updates, plus a few other bonuses. I also own an original copy so I guess it's not as bad.
There's plenty of downloadable cars out there:

About 26 pages of cars on www.nfscars.net just for this game.
So if you're craving that old MCO feeling I suggest giving it a try.

I played NFS:PU on the playstation and on the PC. I think I might still be able to find my old copy...I'm just curious about this torrent thing though. I just registered on this one website that uses that technology and am playing with it. just curious what recomendations you might have for safe websites and things to look for in terms of reliability for file integrity and procedures. any help is much appreciated. now that you've shown what this can look like, I just HAVE to try it! thanx SuperBug...

You can also hook up to the IP Lounge here: http://www.iplounge.net/download.htm
They have a great anti-hack system in place, so you have to use the game cars only. You can race hack-free online with others, and it's a great community.

Honestly I use ******* for most of my torrent stuff, and I have yet to run into any trouble with viruses/spyware.
uTorrent is the bit torrent client i use, its super small, requires no install and works great.
And I see that the Enhanced Version patch is available on the site that Roadweasel linked above, so you can use a legit version and patch it. If you're interested in the link to the torrent I used, PM me and I'll send it to ya, I don't generally like linking to that kinda stuff in public forums.

As a note regarding torrents, if you catch viruses often while just browsing around, then you probably will end up running into the same problem in anything related to the net. I don't use an antivirus at all (resource hogs), and I generally don't get viruses. I have gotten one or two in the past few years, but it was my fault for leaving my hardware's firewall disabled (was doing some testing, forgot to re-enable it). As for the other time, I cannot figure out how it got on the computer (it got on my win2k boot, which I hadn't used in a month, and was present when I booted into it).
It comes down to using common sense while using the internet. Additionally, using a "safe" browser, such as FF + adblock plus, disabling or limiting java, and never installing extensions/activex controls without fully comprehending what it is you are doing.
Also, if you take Superbug's advice about uTorrent (which is my preferred torrent), I would suggest getting 1.6 and not any version higher. The client was bought by BitTorrent Inc which is connected to the MPAA. 1.6 was the last version of the client before BitTorrent Inc. took over. It might be overly paranoid, but for safety's sake, you should stick with 1.6 if you intend to download illegal content. You can find the old version on... oldversion.com

When I saw this thread I just had to get my hands on PU2K. I have been having an awesome time flying around the European countryside so far, but I have hit a snag - if anyone else out there has done this as well, some help would be mucho appreciated :)
I bought the Police 2000cc ride when it became available, in the golden age tournaments. It says it's a B/2000 but the game wont let me race it in any of those races. Any ideas why?

Hmmm, looks like I've started something here lol.
Now we just need to get some multiplayer action going.
Everyone install the 3.5 Enhanced edition from IPL that Roadweasel linked above, and download the client :D

Not to be a pain in the rear but please do not discuss openly where to download pirated software.

I've been playing those old NFS games on an old computer with Windows 98se. I can play NFSPU on my computer with Windows XP. Brings back alot of memories. I did have a list of sites where you can download a ton of cars for those games. I'll have to look around and see if I still have that list. If I do I'll list them.
