Ever thought of putting a junkyard ingame?

like you have places to buy your cars like in MCO but also put a junkyard in for like people wanting to build an old car back to top street mean again...oh like my dream of a 58 fury(red). :D it would be cool to go to a junkyard in game and having some old cars to pick from and it could changed each month or week with new ones being spawned in the junkyards, old rustbuckets :D

Sounds like a great idea. It could be like the cars in the junkyard have no motor, transmission, suspension, and look like a junkyard car. Then you have to build them from the ground up yourself. It would be a great way to get a decent car for real cheap b/c you're basically starting off with just a body.

I was hoping to have rusty varieties of cars in the game similar to those in MCO, but if they are readily available from the junkyard, they wouldn't be so rare.

Our junkyard may be more of a "kenslist" that spawns items you would be searching a junkyard or go garage sailing for as well as the place to sell your unwanted stuff... but what would rat-rodding be if you couldnt go rifling through the junk to find the gems that will make your car unique and a true rat-rod? As the game develops, who knows? We may figure out a way to make a more junkyard like experience.

Remember back in MCO, how you could "Scrap" parts/bodies for 1/2 of their value? Well do it the same way, but instead of the parts/bodies, just disappearing, they go to the Junk yard, and sell for 3/4 their value.

I think a junkyard would be an awsome idea. Maybe just have some parts come up here and there on the junkyard list like a 350 or something this way you could swap out your 283 or something like that. Or swap your 2 barrel and intake manifodl for a 4 barrel and intake off something better rears th400's to swap out th 350's etc etc....

the junkyard parts would have to be severely damage and have durability loss so you would have to throw in some money to fix those parts.

we have had discussions on junkyards before.

I think the junkyard idea is awesome. It could be a place to scrounge around and find things that need rebuilding. Trannys, motors, even cars to build new.

An idea to throw out there. In MMORPG games they have "unique drops" that are rare and one of a kind. Maybe make the junkyard the same way. While scrounging around looking at old motors and rusted fenders, you see under a pile of hub cabs and bumpers, is a unique body just for you to build up and use or sell. Just randomize it and not too frequent. Just an idea.

yeah that sounds awesome. Has anyone played Gearhead Garage? Its a cool old game where you built nice cars. You could get parts from a junkyard to build the car cheap and sell it for a profit at an auction. The only bad thing is you couldnt race.

Here's a thought - when we ban people (and we know it's gonna happen, some people can't help but be asshats) we could just junk their cars.
We plan to implement some random form of parts/car spawning somewhere in track or as prizes in races, shows and the like.
How about adding in ai carjackers - so if Racerxyz is sitting on a one of a kind rare vert bird, and he doesn't bring it out at least once per month (to show or race), the AI thief could break in and steal it, then the stolen car becomes available on kenslist for some stupid low price. AI carjacker would only steal the cars that people are hoarding & not using. Would only happen when you are online - an alarm would sound *IF* you bought one for your garage, and if you could get to your garage and make it your active car within x amt of time, you don't lose it. But - if you're away from your desk getting coffee....
Would make people keep them rare cars out and being used to avoid having them stolen.

I dont think all junkyard parts should need to be rebuilt I mean possibly have some wear on trannies and stuff but what about like a intake manifold or something they usually dont wear out.

i like all these idea's with one addition maybe like a want ad or classified add to sell unwanted parts(not all used up) you know lol one man's junk is another's treasure.

i really like the sound of the ratrod style another thing i would like to see in the junkyard is an EA office or something that we can do various things to (use your imagination as to what kind of things lol)

yeah, to be sure, "hoarding" was an issue that was never really discussed in MCO. you always 'heard' about a guy that had a rare car but they never used it (the real-life version of a Barrett-Jackson wannabe) that were just "trailer-queens". my wife and I are members of a car club up here and help out at the club car-show every year. there's a guy here that has unrestored muscle cars that nobody's ever heard of and that no-one ever sees. these things are still in mint shape too, but they never see the light of day...

If you ban someone maybe you could put their car(s) in the junkyard or up for public auction. I know the police do stuff like that with drug busts.

If someone is banned, it would probably be best to auction their stuff and have the money go into the game. This is another way to take money out of the economy, which is important for purposes of price stability. Prices will still rise overall in the end as they do in all games, but hopefully enough methods can be found to to keep the cash flow in and out relatively close together.

Lol i love the stole car idea but only one proublem there what if the car is slowly being built while the racer is using another car to fund the parts for the new one cause i know i like to build a car horde it untill i bleave its race rdy hmmm also junk yard i work at one we get cars in all the time it either being working good shape or wrecked there was a post on here Insurance guy say car totaled make a option total or fix if u fix u get less money back if u junk it u get blue book val for it now at the junk yard we sell parts and whole cars we sell them depend on value if they run,move,or rare u can base sales prices on the parts if there is a high demand on that part ,so on and so on But i will say I love the thief idea how about instead of ai maby once a month have a option and list of car that need to be hit and a underground parts list!! i would love to run that i love being the outlaw lol good job people !

The idea of your car getting stolen for not using it enough doesn't sound like a good idea to me. I'm nostalgic and I rarely sell any of my first cars in a video game. I also rarely use them that much after awhile because for me I just can't part with them and if they were stolen I would be pissed. Maybe not driving the car could cause dry rot or something? I'm all for auctioning off the cars and parts of people who were banned.
For example lets say that your computer gets fried or you are out of town or something for like 2 or 3 weeks. You come back and get on MWO and guess what one of your cars was stolen because you didn't drive it b/c you were out of town. Then you see someone else driving your stolen car around town. I know I would slam that person into a wall.......

heh - my other brainstorm was to offer a "tavern" feature, where you could buy "shots" for your buddies and then go out driving in "drunken rampage mode" - programming in X amount of skill deterioration per "shot". Wasn't accepted, something about contributing to delinquency or some such. :rolleyes:

Ok so the repo man idea was a joke but I think it could work with one of the following ideas:
1. For inactivity with a car the repo man offers up the car as a lease until the owner reclaims it.
2. The repo man offers up the car on a lease to own basis and after the term is up the leasee becomes the new owner.
The first idea could work on a voluntary basis also. Players with cars they rarely use could lease them out to other players and when the leasee returns it they have to return it in the same condition or owe the money to return it to the same condition.
Just some ideas to keep the creative juices flowing :D

That is a good idea but people arent gonna go for the idea of there ride being taken but u know that was a good idea about leasing to own a car now if player had the option liek the noobs they talk to a few hey i can pay u so much at atime how about giving me the car and the contract will be drawed up and if he dont hold his part up u have this option to repo the car like in rl that i bleave is a good idea........ but on the drive up and then a part list pop up that kinda reminds me of Street legal when u go to the parts bid it would be more fun i think but proubly to much to see the whole vec and be able to say ok i need this part and that part or the option to buy the whole car for a parts car??? junk yard do this :P

I see it as you drive in, and that list comes up with available parts over a 2d image/3d still with several large piles of old parts, chunks of cars/front ends, etc.

Aside from the main part list, you might have the option to rummage around yielding standard parts or junk and the slim chance of a good part, sort of like you might find in a real junk yard. However, I can see people spending all day in the junkyard trying to get one of these good parts for cheap when it would probably be better spent doing time trials and making money racing to buy the good part brand new.

i agree with the rat rod idea, i think that it should spawn both cars and parts that you will see on the cars so you can buy a 32 fourd coupe or a 49 merc and go get some rusty parts then throw the biggest meanest motor into it and have yourself a barn find rat rod

maybe have it where when people get banned the police repo their vehicles and items and they do a bi-weekly police auction.. maybe like on a saturday afternoon when everyone is on. then their money can go to a big collection of banned peoples money and sales from auction that could be won in monthly tournaments.

junkyards should be like real life, IMO.. cars only stay there for so long before getting "crushed" some have good bodies with blown engines, body rot, missing parts, parts close to being totally destroyed.

what about having it so you can drive in and there is just virtual stacks of parts?? then maybe a virtual car lot in the back where it just gives you a rough look at the car, maybe make it so if actual parts are missing( tires, body panels) have them as a fuzzy or black area then you can access the car to check a list of parts it actually has. that way you get the chance to miss that really nice part or car that may be rare

That's interesting. Sorry for the long time for reply, but if you read my thread in the general chat you know I haven't been around in a while.

Either fuzzy or black area, or just not have it on the car (and in the list, obviously). The other option would be to create models for broken parts, but that's too much to ask, lol.

i think the repo- thif man is cool and so is the junkyard. if a car is inactive for 30 days. the computer could send a email to the person stating that the car needs reactivating. have some kind of a email system where they could click on a link and reactivate the car. like in diablo 2 if you dont use your man within 2 month they delet the stuff, but insted of delet the stuff sell the car. the junkyard. there sould be used parts and cars. cars that run and ones that dont. thats just my opion just like everyone else i got opions and butt holes:fight::ciao:
